My '98 Spec Mugen Equipped DC2

^^ nice update, would also love to see what my nine was up to during its previous life in japan

Nice to see a bit of history on the car. Always wondered who had my previous imports in Japan and what sort of driving they underwent.

Looking great, very clean looking engine bay now and I really like the exterior mods etc

Look forward to seeing it at trackskills sometime this year

Thanks a lot guys, Yeh ideally I need a refurbed/new rocker for it as you can see the slight flaking on it on the front :(, importantly for me there is no rust, The thing I'm most shocked at is the condition of the boot floor, looks factory fresh with all tools etc... intact, no rust from leaky light seals either (for now anyway).

Yeh you will see it indeed at some point, plan on using her at Croft over here in Newcastle to try the track too :nice:.

Nice to see a teg used properly. Too many stanced ones

I fully agree. WTF is the point in making a car just look good or apparently "look good", especially a type R, beyond me, but I'll stop before I go into a tangent on a rant here.

So a couple of cheeky little purchases on order for the braking department in prep for the 'ring trip which is less than two months :D. Currently has endless pads all round which are very, very good however fronts are half worn so don't want to take any chances at the ring, will burn them out at a later point. So many things I want to order for it to make it a robust, street friendly trackday car, too many things to pay at the mo though.

Really like this teg some nice tasty mods

Perfect dc2 and in good hands.

All the best with it.

Thanks guys, appreciate the faith Ricky! lol.

So I decided to take a weekend back to Ireland and spend sometime with the car getting it sorted for the ring and the summer of driving ahead!

Picked the car up from the mechanic on Thursday after having a substantial service which included:

All new engine mounts

New fuel filter

All belts replaced

Gear oil replaced (Fuchs sintofluid, awesome gear recommended by OPIE oils, works very well from startup with slick changes from the start of a journey until the end, I always struggled to find a gear oil I got on with after trying MTF 3, Torco MTF and Engine oil, this fuchs seems like great stuff.)

Motul RBF with the system bled very well with a nice hard pedal, I was adamant I needed a hard pedal, each caliper was bled 6 times apparently :nice:

New engine mounts with a mixture of OEM Honda and Japserviceparts mounts, what a difference, nice direct gear changes with minimal wheel hop from starting, very smooth! So glad I chose OEM mounts, anything else just seems like overkill on a road car IMO now, with rattling dashes and rear view mirrors etc for little benefit on a daily.

Engine oil (motul 5w40 as usual) with magnetic bungs for 'box and sump.

Spoon plug leads installed

New J's decat installed, awesome quality and benefits my Twinloop nicely, noise wise you would never say there is a non baffled decat pipe in the car, subtle but seems to have livened the car up a little, feels a bit free throughout the rev range.

Genuine Mugen emblems fitted on the rear spoiler, think they compliment the aluminium centre piece of the Gen.2 nicely. (serice history arrived from Japan too)

Stripped out the rear plastics to get it waxed to keep the arches nice and rust free. Took some time, but nice to work on a car where all clips, screws etc... are in their place.

All back together, so pleased with how the clean the bootfloor is etc with original jack and tool kit in its place.

Also cleaned the car for the first time, cleans up nicely, paintwork is nice and fresh still!

Wheel swapping, tried on the space saver!

Polished twinloop

(headlights need a polish)

OEM Recaro seatcover fitted in black thanks to stephen.

I'll let the pics do the talking, really loving the car, feels tighter and runs as smooth as my mums 52k mile 2006 EP3, I feel the car is exactly how Mugen wanted the car, for sports driving, it's not a racecar, but civilized and comfortable at low speeds, but comes to life when you want it to, such a stable car at high speeds with the compliant Mugen 5way suspension, braking is awesome aswell, feels nice without the ABS.

I have a suspicion there is an aftermarket diff in the car, locks quite easily from a standing start and loves when you accelerate whilst taking a corner, pulls you tight into the "apex". Much like the cusco 1.5way in my dads car, but just not as harsh.

OEM Honda RTA bushes installed next along with stopper and pads once they arrive.

Super clean car Kris it really does look like one of the best examples I have seen!

I know what you mean bout the mugen parts, quick and responsive when you need it but still enjoyable to use everyday and on long journeys etc

Race focused cars are great on the track but useless on long journeys etc

Love it Kris, thats one great looking itr you got there! I would be keeping this for a long time if I were you.

Thanks Stephen, Very happy with it but as always there's still a few bits and pieces to do to make it exactly how I want. And your right, I have learnt over the years that race parts are exactly that, race parts and if you want to a car to feel comfortable, they should be avoided where possible IMO. This is more setup for "sports driving", handles the B-roads so well! I am by no means against full track cars either, just want to enjoy this over summer with no worries about high maintenance parts etc... (for the moment anyway).

Thanks man, I do tend to keep my cars for a while as I usually hang on to find one I'm really happy with :nice:

looks nice , think id prefer colour coded mirrors or spoon ones though...

I'm with you on this I think, it came with these mirrors of a black car from Japan. Will get them painted/swapped at some point :nice:

And thanks for the appreciations fella's!

Just getting tyres sorted for Nurburg, ended up having to buy another Hankook RS2 new there, have loads of 15" 888's but picking 5 of them which would run about 600miles on the road and laps of the ring whilst remaining legal is another issue.

So I'm running my track wheels at Nurburg with 195/50/15 Hankook RS2's, good stable tyre at high speeds with low consistent wear and good grip with some temperature in them, should do the job fine :nice:.

Also had a little touble getting the SARD pads so have switched them to Endless in a circuit compound (ME20), They are supposed to be good and more importantly not too noisy and quite usable on a day to day basis.

Next plans are: Get the car out to the mechanic (In Northern Ireland) and get the pads in, RTA bushes changed, Tyres and wheels sorted and changed and when I arrive back at the end of the month it will be Ring ready after I get the alignment done .

Also, don't think I have ever put a pic of the J's decat I installed:
