Would it improve handling if I had a lower profile tyre at the front then the back like 195/50/15 on rear and 195/45/15 on the front

Av been seeing a lot of supercars pull up outside my workk and they are all like that

But your car is not a supercar which are normally MR, you have an FF car...

ok i guess it would be useless to do that. i was just curious, thanks for info

lol guys why dont you just answer his question instead of asking why he'd wanna do that and slating his comments!

Blinx I know you know alot about ek9s and civics in general but the way you talk to people is intimidating AND you make the newbies like me not want to ask questions when they don't know something!! I'm not just talking about this comment... im talking about in general!

noted.

Funny thing is in the grand scheme of things the OP is on the right track, albeit not a common way of setting up a FF car, oh i hate to get technical but RA will beat me to it if i don't so here we go i will answer the question:

Yes it will improve your handling, allow me to explain why; short tire walls on a lower profile tire keep the tire more ridged and keeps the tire from rolling over itself or trying to come off the rim, the tire will flex less under hard cornering allowing the tire to make more consistent contact with the ground. Now thats a great benefit and something to have on all 4 corners preferably for 99% of us.

Some race prepped ek's are setup to run something like 225/40/16 front and 195/55/15 rear OR 225/45/15 front and 195/55/15 rear. There are a few reasons for this but the one relevant to this thread is handling related. FF (front engine front wheel drive) cars like our ek/ej's have a tendency to understeer (push) and a way to reduce this is to increase the front tires ability to grip or hold the road as some would say, stickier tires, shorter side walls on tires, wider tires all accomplish this. Another way to reduce understeer is to increase oversteer which can be done by stiffening the rear suspension or by using tires that break loose easily like tall side walls, narrow tires, harder compounds etc. :win:

Now as far as how you want your car to handle as far as understeer and how much of it you have or don't have thats all up to each individual user.

i have 50's on the back and 45's on the front and when cornerning hard you do feel alot more flex/roll on the rear and the wall flexes

at first it is worrying but it grips hard when it flexes and digs in

give the feeling of wild oversteer or a split second

Disagree, Blinx is to the point, which is good.

It IS a rather strange thing to ask though...& a pretty futile exercise on an EJ9...

Surely to make it handle better, a set of standard wheels with decent tyres would be the way forward initially?:secret:

Why thank you kind sir :D

Agreed, 99% of people would be much happier with upgrading there sway bars/coilovers/wheels etc...

I know it's probably wouldn't make much difference to a ej9 and it might be a strange question to ask but that still doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to answer his question.

Anyway I think blinx understood what I meant and gave a proper explanation which is good :)

Thanks blinx

LOL....

Its common sense though.

1. Those are Super cars.
2. Civics are NOT.

PS Have you thought about putting Bugatti Veyron hub conversion on the Civic?

NOOBS should think about stuff first though

In fairness this is gonna stop people from asking questions and the forum will be ruined.

The lad only asked a question and it took ye ages to answer but were quick off the mark to be little his question.

Please don't assume everybody is as timid as you think.

Some people are very sensitive, some not at all, in all fairness the Internet is not a place for sensitive people as there will ALWAYS be flamers, trash talkers, and trolls, no amount of moderation can stop that 100%. For every 1 person who is scared to ask a stupid question there will be 5 people brave enough to ask, that is why forums work in the first place. How did this get so dramatic anyway?

Usually done on high powered cars.

SPOON K20 EK9 runs 245/35/R17 at front and 205 at rear. You need to have a really good suspension and tyre pressure setup to have it run well though.

Oh I know that but this place used to be very welcoming.

Blinx this forum is here so people can share what they know about cars. I don't understand how some of these comments will help anyone on here!

OK civics are not supercars but im sure that your explanation is more appreciated by everyone than some of the comments above... someone might not know why people use bigger profile tyres on rears but your explanation would give them the answer and thats what this forum is about!

Nothing dramatic required, just the answer to the question because everythin else is irrelevant!
