Ok so I know I can not get real answers here but look for some extra opinions as I don't know these K20's that well.

Car has been running great but I have notice a slight jerky reaction from off to on throttle and it seems to pick up a bit late after applying the gas.

Today it was worse I noticed a distinct jerky throttle and a delayed pick up arround 2-2500rpm.

Well just took the car out again and noticed a distinct missfire gradually got worse. When I tried to accelerate it would stop and just lose momentum suddenly. It won't rev past 5500rpm no engine checklight is on. And is now missing through out revs.

When I tried to accelerate and it would cut out I noticed a lot of smoke. I assume unburnt fuel but can not tell as it is pitch black.

Really don't need this right now! Only had this car for a week and half...

Minor or major engine problem?

Coilpack probably , plug the plugs and see which cyl. its missing on

When a friend done a k20 swap into his EG he had similar problems. It turned out to be his fuel pressure was set to high. IIRC it should be 50psi

Are you trying to rev it with car not moving or will it not pass 5500 when driving?

yup one of the above it sounds like coilpack failere, weak fuel pump, it could even be the fuel regulator as mentioned above set too high.

Check your tps sensor they get bad quite often on k swaps for some reason

Well it won't rev past 5500 both on the spot or driving.

I have looked thought the service books and it appears the plugs have not been change in 21,000 miles.... Thinking it may be these but then Honda say they are good for 45,000 miles...

Why would it fail so suddenly...

I am baffled I ****ing hate cars.

My 9 is playing up also with a missfire at the mo. I seem to be plagued by missfires!

Speedo reading ok? I know with the dc5 on stock ecu they have a built in lower rev limiter when the car is stationary. Normally they throw a fault code if missfire persists. Problem probably lies with plugs or a coil pack. On a very odd occasion a faulty injector has been reported so if everything with the ignition system checks out i'd be inspecting the injectors.

Yes my mate had a problem with his DC5 turned out to be injector.

No issue with my speedo...

I really hope this is a cheap fix!

We are sooooo skint right now

Small diagnosis from this morning.

I got up early and started work on the car about 7:30.

Ran a compression test while the engine was stone cold as i could ensure this was consistant accross all cylinders.

All 4 came out at 190 psi stone cold so i am happy with the compression.

All the coil packs look OK and are firing all cylinders as each one when pulled stops that cylinder from firing. I did notice Cylinder 2? (Closest to gearbox) was VERY brown in colour compared to the other 3 that where normaly in colour (Black)

All plugs looked ok (Although old looking) But all the tips where fine and consistant colour.

I did check the oil gone and it appears that we have used a 1/4 of a litre which i assume (hope) was because the bores became drwoned in unburnt fuel. (The oil will be changed if i fix it)

My friend has 3 good working coil packs and a spare used set of working plugs so we intend to try this tonight.

I ran it arround the block and it was driving much better than last night and not missing no where near as much. But still jerky and definitely not running correctly.

Any more thoughts based on this?

Check the tps sensor is reading correctly like mentioned. Get those injectors flow tested to. Its most likely something simple ;)

Sounds to me like it could be the TPS. I know they are prown to failing. I think you can one get it complete with the TB so most people just buy Spoon body as its cheaper than Honda.
Dunx

What should the TPS be reading?

Wierd if it is as I think my 9 one has or is failing too...
