Just got my EK9 here she is...

lookin' good! nearly 3yrs and still finding coins

Thanks for all the nice comments, always encouraging when people like the work that's been put in. :)

Yeah Ian something ill always regret and won't forget in a hurry.

If any one has any suggestions on a new theme for the lip please post them its looking a bit tatty now and needs replacing I've had a few ideas but always good to see some thoughts :nice:

If it goes carbon it will be layered in the real thing. Even though its still a coating so in a sense fake I don't like the plastic stuff.

I would just put the lip back to white man! Good job on the car, it looks good!

I don't understand how the Japenese manage to loose coins in such unusual places? I mean, how does a coin fall out of your pocket, and end up underneath the carpet?! :)

Each to there own... I'm starting to like wrap when use properly

Dave: white has been an option but then it will look the same as every other EK9 and I just fancy being a bif different.

Craig: my thought exactly seems so weird under the seats bits of trim and the carpet I did wonder if ot was some random good luck thing.

Ian: yeah I'm not knocking it in general I have seen some very good examples just like the real thing its more shiney :p

Bit slow on this but I attended a very wet HoT evening at Brands Hatch Last monday (11th) Some photos of the evening can see seen here:

Lotus on Track - Brands Hatch - 11th June - Evening Track Day/BX8R2536

Think I might be buying a few of these in the near future.

Despite the heavy rain and slight delay I had a great evening I'll definatly be attending another HoT day soon very well organised and no problems.

I was running really well and the car was coping with the rain a lot better than the Lotuses that were around. I did get one video of the evening unfortunately the only time I borrowed the camera from a friend I decided to take a trip across the grass at Surtees so decided it was a bad omen and was best to hand it back. I do have a youtube link if people really want to see/criticise my mistake I can chuck it up :p

Well I have been massively lazy of late and failed to get any good pictures Im afraid but really is about time I updated this.

I had been planning for a long time to fit a 4.7 final drive or a gearset in my gearbox after a few missed oppertunitys and withdrawn sales on the boxes/gearsets I wanted I got as far as purchasing the parts for a DC2 4.7 FD from R Motion ready to go.

Then my friend (Jesse888 on here) bought an EK9 and fitted a ATS carbon LSD after a short spin in his car I decided I couldnt be left behind and had to get a plated diff too.
SammyB on her was selling off parts from his old build and I snapped up his box that was fitted with a 1.5way Kazz LSD and 4.7 final drive already (no pictures im afraid you all know what a box looks like)

I couldn’t wait to fit it to that weekend with the help of Jesse now well versed in removing gearboxes from cars we set about swapping the boxes over unfortunately during this process I found out that my inner CV boot was torn and needed replacing along with the passenger side lower ball joint. All this meant that I was stuck with a car like this for a few days (and very very cold extremities) :

Initially I used the supplied Kazz box oil (basically syrup physically had to pump it into the gearbox) Unsurprisingly compared to the water like consistency of OEM Honda box oil I found the gear changes rather notchy, and I was also rather surprised how mild this diff appeared to be despite the warnings and previous experience.

SO I purchased this:

Reccomended by StevenEK9 and ijwhiteman who I have been lucky enough to meet and even go around the Nurburgring with (thanks to you both)

Gave the car a service with new engine oil and filter to boot all ready for a good shakedown at Brands Hatch

HOLY COW! With that oil swapped over the diff suddenly came alive and all hell has broken loose I knew about the clunking I would get but really wasn’t expecting the tugging that went with it. However I wouldn’t change it back at all out on track the diff made the world of difference I could plant my foot mid corner and apex exactly where I wanted the confidence in the bends was incredible (perhaps a little too much as I did overtake a few people on the bends who wouldn’t pull over on straights sorry! I promise to stop that :)

If you made it this far thanks for reading one of the most boring updates (picture wise) of any thread I hope to have more interesting ones soon but I had to put this down as its probably the biggest change to my cars performance of any mod I have made,

Pictures from brands hatch to follow soon hopefully, and if I can borrow a camera some clunky diff action.

Nice update Matt. Now I will confess to messing up your ball joint with my gypsy technique.(big hammer) get some brands pics up, I could link my YouTube video if you want?

Good upgrades for the track !!

We went the other way oil wise with my mates plated diff. The oil he had in wasn't the right grade, think it was far too thin and the noise was horrible. Decent oil put in and it worked a lot better

Ha ha excellent! Told you about that oil! Recently driven mine after 6months for got how bad it is but I love it!

On a side note when you have finished that gtx magnatec get a decent 5 40 fully synthetic in there. Especially if you are tracking it and also for cold start protection. I won't claim to be an expert on oils and things but if you doubt it speak to Opie oils.

Danger mouse: Its far from clean at the moment :( stupid winter weather.

DHdave: The noise does sound pretty pretty bad with this thinner oil I got lots of funny looks at brands but the diff can handle it Id rather that clunk than grind my gears with the thick Kazz stuff.

Jesse: Yeah if you dont mind me linking that up ill do that :)

Lee: Yeah I love it definatly something I would want in any track car now Ive experienced it.

Ian: Thanks for the recomendation I might have to have a word with opie and see what they say I dont think they reccomend Magnatec either, I have been running it for a while and since the car dosn't seem to burn any oil and is at 970000 now Ive just been sticking with it.

Thanks for the tip though I want to keep her in tip top shape so ill look into it.

Brands hatch Video: Filmed from Jesse888's car (I am the ek9 directly in front for the first few laps) we decided to take it in turns to follow each other since our pace was close Jesse 1min dead and myself 1.01 to see which areas we were quicker at.
Obviously you can see some massive lifts from Jesse on the straight with his b18 when following me.

Jesse also suffered a few 4th gears issues later on aswell but I believe hes addressed that allready.

(Awaits flaming for the Graham Hill bend overtaking I promise to stop that now and just back off if people won't yield)

Nice one mate looking forward to some more pics :p

Overtaking on bends tut tut :drive::D
