hi everyone just wanted to know if anyone else has fitted a j's racing decat pipe with their exhaust system and noticed that the car sounds very tinny up the front of the car where the decat pipe is located especially in vtec, p.s i have a fujitsubo RMO1A hooked up to the j's,ive only had the j's fitted for about 4 days now and am wondering if it will sound a bit less tinny when more of a carbon coating builds up inside??:drive:

I have exactly the same, yes it is Tinny, i think all straight pipe decat do the same....

I only thought it was my Spoon system making such high pitch sound...obviously it is the same for your RM01.

So no...still very high pitch metallicky after 6months or more

reason for that is because most of the popular JDM de-cats are not resonated. It's just a pipe with two flanges.

There are others which act like a small muffler to help silence or "smoothen" out the tone.

Bad thing is, they are heavier and may be more expensive. But the extra weight is worth it in my opinion if my exhaust sounds nicer as a result.

cheers for the info mate, ill probably stick with the j's now cos im getting used to the sound now,its a pretty crazy race note:drive:

heard alot of people complain about vtecs sounding tinny with decats.also heard people syaing that their cars felt flatter.
just seems like something you have to put up with if you want a decat.

yeah mate i agree but i actually quite like the tinny race note now,i think Raging angel is right in saying that a decat with baffles in it like the one pictured would help make it sound more normal like the oem cat

I fitted a baffled decat after reading RagingAngel's original post where he mentioned baffled decats.

After coming from a straight through decat I felt like the exhaust note had last a little of its sharpness, i missed that at first. But after a month or so of driving and allowing for a little carbon build up, i have to say the exhaust note with a baffled decat is hugely preferable, just has more of a 'quality' sound to it.

I found mine here, really not that much more expensive than your average 'straight' decat pipe:

Japshop Civic 96-00 DE-CAT (bottom of page)

nah I am wise and have a Street muffler, its still quite loud, and echos through the streets... I like the sound, sound different to other cars and you know it is a honda VTEC.

oh and the noise it makes on lift off at 8k is menacing

its like a buzzing bee gone crazy.....

that looks like a mint decat for £52 !!! i paid £114 delivered for my j's!!!!!

i have just fitted the baffled decat from japshop, agree with jokeshopbeard, sounds really good, not tinny at all.

How have your emissions/mot been with the Japshop special?

my de-cat is exactly the same as this one only its an obx with the orginal cats brackets welded on, i would say id perfer it to just a straight pipe with no baffles however i do want to change either to the orginal or a high flow cat whats people thoughts on this?

Not had my emissions checked since fitting, but was always planning to just stick the OEM cat back on come MOT time.

Suppose it would be interesting to see what emission levels were like, but I've just got in the habit of replacing the cat once a year... its a quick enough job after all...

Ya looking to get a sport cat when I eventually get my Fujitsubo, just curious on the Japshop special, mine really struggled on the emissions last mot (standard system).

Thanks for that Jokeshop, that is just what i have been looking for!:secret:
Plus it's only 10 min's from my house!:nice:

As with regards to MOT time!
I was told by my mate who MOT'd mine that ek9 should not have to go through the emissions test because the b16b engine code does not appear in the MOT book that he had there!

Basicly we were struggling to get it through the emissions so he looked in this book and said that because it was a jap only car and the engine code did not appear in it, that he could put it through on a pre cat test!

In the end we got it down to the proper reg's to get it through a cat test, but i though i would keep this in mind for the future!!!!!

Anyone know anymore about this????????????

If you want good quality expensive sound... heres mine with the price of increased weight... lol

No high pitched or tin sounds at all... Just deep barking rottweiler sounds.
