Jesse888 Forged/stroker turbo ek9

^ that's the best way from a ultimate safety point of view providing they do a good job fitting it,
I do sometimes wish I had bought and welded my own cage in, but the more I think about it it's really just overkill for a occasional track car, I've no doubt in my mind that I will be pretty safe with the SD cage,

They had a few cars there they made cages for and all looked good enough to me, although admittedly I'm no welder or scrutineer lol. I sent an email to SD asking how much would it cost to have the front section extended to go through the dash. £1100 + vat and they'd need the car to do it, plus the rear cage would be obviously on top of that. Ermmm I don't think so sir!

What the ****! That's a bit of a "we can't be ****** to do it so give him a stupid price" sort of quote lol

Could just be a burr from a thread like the sump plug or something that was hidden in your new cam cover that's worked its way out.
if something was failing in there there would most likely be more then one piece

I did think this myself, the sump plug was alittle stiff when I last changed the oil. Then it was equally stiff to remove today.(went in smooth today though) Perhaps the burr from that got caught on the plug as i pulled it out. Sounds very far fetched though lol

Been out in it. Ended up doing 70miles!
Business as usual as far as the engine is concerned, pulls fine and no smoke!
Put my dunlops and side skirts on ready for track, the sticky tyres don't half bring the diff out, was pretty aggressive lol
I noticed when I hit 100-110 the car kicks up a fair bit of dust, none before this though. Makes me think perhaps the diffuser is doing something now I've added the front lip and lowered the front closer to the floor? Defo dust and not smoke etc because it's brown and "dusty"
Doesn't do it in clean roads like motorway, but roads used alittle less it chucks it up

Minds running away now, thinking it could have been smoke lol will have to go out and give it abuse tomorrow. Will try and get video while I'm there.

If the "aero" is working a little bit then yeah you will see more dust ect being kicked up. That and sticky tyres picking stuff up off the road.
OMP do a bolt in cage for ek civics?

Stop worrying so much and hopefully you will enjoy your trackday. Has the engine used any oil?

Your probably spot on, paranoia is creating problems that don't exist.
Slight weep from the sump plug but no noticable usage.
Even of it does burn I'll be using it anyway, so technically doesn't matter lol

It's not like the usual puff of smoke you get either, it looks as if the dust is rushing up the rear window which is interesting, I'd love to get a video of it going along from the side in the rain or something.

Been out with a friend following in his dc2. He said only small puff of black smoke on initial spool up but no smoke otherwise, he said it does kick up a lot of dust and road debrie.

Popped a boost hose off on the motorway aswell, blasting along and then no power and no noise lol no biggie just refit and away we go again.

Can I ask where you got your good reflective tape from ?
I can't find any on eBay for less than £30 for a small amount, had to order mine from America but it was only 5 feels worth so still not enough to do my carbon bonnet.

You want to do the whole underside of a carbon bonnet?
Have you tried the stuff you have atm? I'm not to sure it'll stick to bare carbon fibre for too long.
I used the mishimoto tape on mine but haven't got any on the underside of the bonnet.

I bought a few rolls of 3m alu tape in Lidl when they had them for like couple quid or something. Way better than the generic alu tape, used it to wrap my intake, fairly strong for alu tape and very sticky!

Yeah, where the carbon is exposed, as far as I'm aware it's stuck really well. Only doing it to prevent the laquar peeling as it started 2 days after I fitted the dam thing.
My manifold is the PLM v2 so sits high like a ramhorn and produces stupid heat.

Saw the mishimoto tape on eBay and is more than I want to pay for some tape haha.

Yeah is pretty expensive lol not the most expensive though.
My carbon bonnet is painted CW but the heat has effected the paint, it's gone abit pimply all over. can't see it until your like 3inch from the surface. I've got some spare heat tape so I might try it if yours is stuck well.

When I built a turbo mini (ages ago) I used a load of powermat heat reflective mat from rally design, it's a foil coated material rather than a thin tape,

Quick pre trackday update.
I've mentioned losing coolant before now, turns out it was the rad cap.
So ordered skunk2 cap from tegiwa, next day delivery and boom it's fitted.
Really impressed by the quality(I know it's just a rad cap) but others I've had don't feel the same.
My car came with a nismo cap for some unknown reason, always worked fine so never questioned it.

In with the new

Yep it's on full charge. Going to leave it afew sessions so the battery doesn't go flat towards the end of the day, the tracks usually a lot more quiet around 4pm.

Cool, looking forward to the vids.
Mind and enjoy yourself and not worry about stoor behind you. Keep an eye on temps. Water and oil plus pressure.

Check!
Mainly a work out for the engine but you know how it ends up lol
My water temp gauge(aftermarket) is broken but I know that the b16b would be at 118c oil temp before the water was getting to 95c.
I'll be smart/conservative with it till I get another water temp gauge in. Te rad always recovered well with the old engine so I'm not expecting much change.
Thinking get used to it on low boost then crack out the boost by gear.

So.
You'll be aware this post is alittle early, Nope the engine is fine no real problems there.
Noise limits again lol
Think the screamers going to have to go :( also going to put a larger middle silencer in as I've got a "cherry bomb" style one in atm. Wasn't planning on upgrading to 3" this early so I'll probably make a patchwork exhaust for now to see me through the season.
I did 3 stints and was black flagged(noise) on the 3rd. Luckily I pulled the camera out for that stint, unfortunately the footage is really poor but I'll post it anyway for you guys to see it/hear it going around.

Beat my fastest brands lap by 3secs though so not all bad, fastest lap(of the four laps videod) was roughly 56.69. Plenty more to be had out of the car yet as I ran low boost today but was nice to feel it at speed again. No doubt it would grip with 0.7bar aswell until the tyres get too hot, experiments with boost by gear will have to wait until I feel I'm actually driving the car to a decent level at its current power, and not "pointing" it.
Left time almost everywhere while I was building up pace but happy enough that I'm not completely **** and I know I could have gone faster!

The PAS delete is great, can feel everything that's going on! Even with the rear you've got a much better sensation of movement, one tail out moment on the first stint but tyres where cold so probably that.
After that it's just rotation more than "oversteer". Steering isn't heavy at all on track, was expecting it to get pretty heavy once the tyres warmed up but it's nicely weighted.

Only engine gripe I have is the oil pressure on idle, after coming in(oil approx 100c) the oil pressure sits at around 15psi. Comes back up to around 20psi when the oil gets cooler(80c) but it's never sat that low before. Generally around 25-30psi at 80c, stil makes 80psi at any revs above 3krpm and was completely stable on track(when I looked) so I'm not too worried about that just yet(so long as it doesn't geet worse), it could be the new oil being 10w-50 instead of 10w-40? Although my logic would say it should have more pressure?
Max oil temp that I saw was 110c, although I'm not sure how long a stint it was I'd guess minimum 10mins.
No oil burning that I could see which is good, no power loss that I noticed either so would appear(touch wood) that the engine is decent. It's on 950miles now with a good 40-50miles on track I would guess. I'm back at brands april 13th so that's my time limit to get the exhaust sorted.
I'll post the video shortly.
