Jesse888 Forged/stroker turbo ek9

Hey. Oil pressure when hot at around 15 psi is not too bad. The standard oil pressure light is set very low!.110 is also ok on oil as long as you run quality oil. Look foward to a video! My m3 is nearly ready to hit the track! Will have to cross the bridge and come see your beast! The 10w 50 will cope with the higher temps better but it shouldnt increase oil pressure when hot.

Glad you had a trouble free morning. Well apart from noise. Brands must have a strict noise limit? How do TA cars get away with it?
As for your oil pressure, that's ok, pretty sure mines was the same, I bumped the idle up abit just so it looked abit better to the eye. The stock pressure sensor lights up around 10psi. So long as you have over 50 psi at 3k revs then all is good.
Look forward to the limited footage.

Yeah 3k revs I'm at 75-80psi. Then 80 all the way up the revs no matter how hot the oil is.
Not too worried about that, glad I got 3 stints out of it before it good kicked off.

Tbh brands are pretty ruthless with the noise restrictions, people say bedford is bad but the guys at bedford will show you a noise limit board before you get flagged for it, then they'll give you a warning which is fair enough.
Brands is 1 strike and your sticker is coming off till you fix it, they won't tell you where the sound meters are either, bedford do.
Will link the civic laps, real poor footage but it's all I've got.
I got out in my daily mx5 so wasn't a complete waste, had good fun in the Mazda, having no power means you've got to drive it so atleast I was getting seat time. Had a spin at the end of the day, just finished picking the stones out the rim lol

That video will have to wait till tomorrow

Here's the civics laps, can't see the track too well, I changed the angle on the go pro to see the gauges but it's over exposed the track. It's all I've got unfortunately but you get the idea.

Shame the video didn't come out so good, looked like it was going well!

As said even bringing the idle up even just slightly will probably knock the oil pressure up to a more pleasing to the eye figure

I'll chat with romain about it when I ask about routing the screamer back into downpipe, probably won't need further tuning but I it does I'll get the idle raised afew 100rpms.

I just remembered i left the window demister on(raises revs slightly) and turned it off this morning. Could be the difference, seems unlikely though.

Brands must be serious about noise. Your car doesn't sound any louder than what my one did, and that's not that loud.
Looked to be going well in the vid though. Do you have the spot metering setting on, in the GoPro? That helps with the camera focusing out the window rather than on the dash.

I thought I had it on. Will check later today, I think perhaps pointing it at the dash was the problem.
I went out in my mx5 afterwards and the footage is perfect, so settings on the go pro must be correct,
Yeah the cars not that loud, well I dont think so. Seemed to be louder cars out there still running.
I'm going to put a larger middle silencer in and route wastegate back into the downpipe, if that doesn't work then i'll have to rethink my back box. I've got a really small rear silencer to fit with the diffuser so don't want to go larger if I can help it.

2.5" with a "cherry bomb"style middle silencer and a small rear box(3.5" wide silencer box about 10" long)
The noise tester claims it tested 95db static at the start of the day yet 100db the 2nd time I was static tested(after being kicked off)

Think my oil pressure gauge is playing up.
Started it cold just now and it read 140psi, slowly came down but not right. Highly doubt the engines making 140psi oil pressure on a cold start lol

Is it a cheapo gauge? I'll need a gauge for track, but can't decide whether to splash out on some proven and quality gauges (=expensive) or whether some of the cheaper ones would actually do the same job for a lot less? Just made the decision to go ahead with the roll cage so money is kinda tight lol

Well went for a drive, pressure was lower again today than it was yesterday. Not reaching 80psi till 4krpm now instead of 3k.
Had a feeling in my gut saying to check the dipstick then drop the oil.
Not a good sign when your picking metal flakes off your dipstick!
Dropped the oil and I've got a decent build up of metal on the sump plug.
When you spread the flakes on the sump plug out its a shiney silver colour.
Combined with the lower oil pressure would this point towards a bearing issue? The oil is jet black after maybe 170miles.
You know the saying, if it's too good to be true it usually is......
Going to drop the sump and see how much metals stuck inside there. Then I'm stuck for a plan of action tbh.
What would everyone else do?
Selling up or setting on fire isn't an option, though hammer is looking appealing lol

Ah feck. Sounds like it has picked up a bearing somewhere:(.
Whip off sump and start checking the bearings. While you are at it you will have to check the oil pump. Hopefully your sump plug has saved that from sooking up debris.

Just check the lower bearing halves? With the engine in the car? Wondering what could have caused that to happen, obviously need to make sure it doesn't happen again.
I didn't have the engine balanced or anything but wouldn't have thought this would cause that?

That sucks man sorry to hear that! Well, I have a block and crank here I've been keeping for some future build, but realistically... So if you need one or the other let me know. Maybe it's time to go K?

I can't go K after driving this setup lol seriously I'll make it work one way or the other. I expected some issues, it's how your learn. Sucks that it's actually happening but the knowledge I'll no doubt gain will be worth it imo.
It's not like it's spun a bearing and wrecked the crank etc the engine revs right round to 9k and pulls like a train. It's just likely eating bearing material or something.
Not sure how an aluminium bearing is being picked up by a magnet?

Errr, aluminium bearing shouldn't be picked up by a magnet! That'd suggest it's not aluminium! Oil pump on it's way out?

It's something else I'll have to check.
What I need to know is what causes the failure of these parts in a new engine, then I can make sure it doesn't happen again, can't go putting a new pump or bearings on after every trackday.
