HOW TO: make your tailights come on like EK9 ones


I want this doing but don't think any of the garages near me have a clue :/

Garage? DIY dude! Have some faith in yourself! I'm going to do mine this morning, I think it looks harder than it is. Once you take your light off and see the wires, you'll see exactly how they connect
 
I know this is an old thread but just thought I put out some info that US civics also light up both top and bottom

On the ek9 do both the top and bottom lights work when braking or is it all 4 for lights and then just the upper 2 for braking??

Going to do this mod at the weekend and wanted to check

All 4 light when your lights are on but still only the top two light up when braking mate
 
PS any clues on how to remove the fog light shield?

I tried heating the light unit to remove the lense but couldnt shif the cover so wonder if its possible to remove it through the bulb hole or if its too big??

I know a few people who used a soldering iron through the bulb hole and removed piece by piece the shield.
 
can i use the same bulb for both fog light and as brake light ?
i want to use the fog light sometimes when fog is out there but also i like the idea having two extra stop lights warning other drivers when braking.

Im guessing not because you will need a double filament bulb but that will be used for side light and brake light.

you could do that but what`s the point? you have the 3rd light coming on when braking along with the top lights. Just tap the lines that go to the top bulbs onto the fog light line and you`ll have braking and fog light. I haven`t tried this though.

i don't have a 3rd light that's why.
i have no fog light since i did the connection maybe i'll give it a try next week i need to get some fuses and bulbs just in case i blew them:nerv:

no there not the only ones that light up at top and bottom, my ek2 came standard with them the exact same, bar the clear indincators
 
seems like even I got a pair of ek9 lights, if I want put them into my ek4, I still have to do this cut and tap right? is there anyway i can keep the ek9 light uncut?
 
It's not the actual light cluster that does the whole light up thing. You'll have to alter your existing rear light loom. If you don't want to do that you could always see if anyone has there rear light loom for sale
