I heatwrapped my d series mani and it made the bay cooler but it made the exhaust louder.
I heatwrapped my d series mani and it made the bay cooler but it made the exhaust louder.
ive done mine, i dare say it does lower engine bay temps at very least but mainly looks good to me ha
cant be any downsides as far as i see
the manifold gets hotter transmitting more heat to the cylinder head and internals. You dont really want this...
Also lets the exhaust gases travel faster so you get better flow but on a standard engine I doubt you see the benefits
Yeah, will make the exhaust a tad louder. Kept the engine bay cooler and reduced water temps too.
I dont see how wrapping it too tight will damage the manifold - However may cause the wrap to damage itself and weaken (eventually breaking).
I also heard of wetting the wrap, I didnt however. Be sure to use plenty of stainless ty-wraps though!
Have fun
Thanks! I am thinking I may as well do this.
As for the stainless wraps, where should I wrap it? I have seen then ty-wraped up at the top but should there be any going down the manifold?
I am sure I will have fun just need to remember to wear gloves as when my mate done his he didnt and he had itchy hands for days
Thanks mate, I think I will do it.
Yeah it does look good haha did you wrap it yourself? I have heard some stories about wrapping it, some say its best wetting the wrap, also not to do it too tight or over wrap as it can sometimes damage the manifold?
(P.S your car looked amazing last night haha defo want a set of canards, look so aggressive !!)
Ill try dig out a picture, I did find though - towards the 90degree bend around the sump (most exposed to the airflow) the wrap kept breaking/getting loose. In the end I made a X pattern for it which solved it.
Yeah and use some clothes you dont mind chucking, I used some thermo-tec 'cool it' and the copper dust went everywhere - right fudging pain, I'd get a mask too as the dust becomes airbourne easy.
Hope these help.
yeah done it mayself mate, tbh i did wet mine but it was the first time i had done it so no idea whether or not it makes a difference, DEFFO go for a decent wrap instead of the ebay stuff though, so much easier to work with a will last longer/look better in the end
* thanks alot mate so did yours, looked very clean love my canards haha
Thermo-tec 'cool it', DEI wrap, think thats been bought up before.
i've heard of people wrapping mild steel exhausts and of course once the wrapping got wet it stayed wet and rotted the exhaust..
Don't buy the cheap eBay stuff, it falls apart after a while
I've used dei titanium befor. Good stuff, could rest my hand on my turbo manifold even after a good run.
The dei titanium you can put on dry, I did and it was fine
