getting more from - b16b??

Have you been out in an EK9 with both engines? Cause there is quite some difference between the way they feel when driving!!

The B18, although more powerful, just feels that much more lazy. Whilst with the B16 it just feels like you're always wringing its neck. Definately a more agressive VTEC changeover in the B16 too.

Hence why I'll be staying B16. Even if it is slightly slower, I just prefer the feel. I can just jump on my bike when if I really want to go faster...

Anyways, the moral of the story is, rather than be pointlessly annoyed, please understand that people have their own reasons for doing things.

yea have driven the 2 man....i bought a b16b causei love the power it puts out from a 1.6, the teg b18 as you said is quick but i did find it "lazy" as you said towards the ek9, the ek9 feels lke it just bursting wit power ha ha...

As mentioned, more to a car than POWER.........

I've improved the breathing on my engine and fitted a generic aftermarket ECU, tbh that's plenty for me, keep it very well serviced and running tip top

MUCH MUCH rather spend money on the chassis in the form of suspension bits and brakes, more fun

and wats your car puttin out now man??

About 200, was rr adges ago at 192. numbers are rubbish though, the engine feels strong, pulls well and uses zero oil which is most important

Thats with

spoon ECU
throttle body taper ported and coolant lines bypassed
DC2 integra airbox with custom 4" feed to inner wing with huge airport
fujitsubo manifold, still to heat wrap this
spoon N1 cat back
innovative mounts
no ac, ps to be removed soon
ORC 309 single plated clutch

and of course a baffled sump and full width integra koyo radiator to keep it peachy on track, still to fit these ;)

Have you? when iv been out in EK9s iv thought that it was slow as hell before vtec, and not mega fast in. B18C destroys it in everyway tbh.

And considering the rev limits between ek9 and itr are pretty much the same, one isnt revier. Only thing il agree on is the aggresive vtec, but you dont really want that tbh. Smooth power line ftw

sure i just want to do it as no one locally has it done man, 200bhp with b18 is easy and loads around

Why do you want to make things harder for yourself and chase figures?

It'll just mean more money spent and more possibility for things to go wrong.

wat improvements is a full lenght rad over normal one??

and coolant lines bypassed??? sorry new to this stuff

and is baffled sump neccesary ??

Yes I have, and you feel free to continue reeling off your opinions about how much better the B18 is. If you're unwilling to understand anothers viewpoint, I'm not gonna waste my time trying to convince you that there are other options out there.

Have a quick read of the posts above before you go making up your mind that you know whats best though eh?

Standard radiator is half width and is about 23mm thick, Koyo I have is full width and 53mm thick....... More cooling capacity, planning using the car even more on track and with the extra space from removing the AC it would be rude not too. As standard the oil is cooled slightly by a coolant loop at the oil filter so should keep not just the coolant temps more stable but also the oil

As standard the coolant flows from the head through the underside of your throttle body then through the IACV and back downto the coolant system. basically looped the lines so the hot cooloant doesn't run through teh throttle body so to keep intake temps down

Baffled sump is not neccessary no, although since I run cut slicks and am planning on doing more track days, it's a good peace of mind for me. standard sump is pretty well designed anyways as it does have baffles, although they are quite small but sufficient for road use

cheers for info lad appreciate it

Go b18c is the best option. If you sold the b16b it wouldnt cost much at all.
Your looking at (if a garage did it for you) £4000+ for ITB's and stage 2 cams.

Where as a b18c conversion doing it yourself would cost about £1000, if you sold the engine.

yea will be doin it myslf man...the thing is the tax too though...to tax the b16b in ireland its bout 400 pounds for year and the b18 is about 550 pounds, its just the cheaper option .

if i did sell b16b what money would i be lookin at

Perfect set up mate!
what you have done with the coolant lines sounds interesting! Is it hard to do?

what size has your throttlebody been taper ported to and did you do the intake mani to match?

Cheers

You can pick up a decent b16b engine over here for 1200euro. Everyone seems to be jumping on the band wagon of going 1.8ltr. If you don't mind spending the money then the b16b has good potential but if it's the case funds will be limited on the build then going 1.8 makes sense. Each to their own but would be nice to see someone extract the full potential of the 1.6:nice:

Coolant lines basically remove the lines going to and from the throttle body, then used the longest one and ran it straight from the inlet manifold to IACV, perfect length, need to bleed the coolant system again after

Nah i bored the TB myself, never touched the manifold side of the it, just taper bored out the inlet side as far as i could

:)
