Forum terms of usage.

This thread has gone astray from the original idea! Are the registration T&Cs a bad idea/waste of time then?

Not at all, I'll try to change the terms today. :secret:

i would love to have the power to move threads to the correct place and help people with this forum!

like rvm i dont feel that paid membership would work.

hopefully people will start noticing threads being moved to the correct place and start doing the same themselves by abbiding the rules, nobody wants to be moaned at and thats what i dont want to see it coming to, as this is the greatest and friendliest forum out there :)

Paid membership only works if you have something to give the members, stickers, key rings, pens, unique forum advantages etc

Please check the terms:

EK9.org JDM EK9 Honda Civic Type R Forum - Forum Rules

I added bold text for 2 rules, feel free to correct me or add any other term you think it'll help the forum.

(english is not my first language so help me out with grammar corrections lol)

Sounds good but it doesn't grab you attention and could still be skipped by.

Here's the CRXUK one I was talking about:
READ THIS!!!!
You are about to go and click that you agree to it so you would be best served by reading it all.
It is important else it would not be here.

IMPORTANT: THIS FORUM WILL TRY TO SEND YOU AN ACTIVATION EMAIL!

At first you may not appear to receive a welcoming email, and will NOT be able to access the forum without it.
Creating multiple accounts to see if it might work will serve nothing other than to make you less likely to get your username working.
This is a problem with your internet providers setup and there is nothing we can do about it.
Make sure to check your junkmail, bulkmail or spammail folders carefully for an email from the forum. It will definately have been sent to you but some ISPs will class it as spam.

Thanks CRX-UK admin team.

^ Not sure this bit is needed?

IT IS IMPORTANT TO READ THIS TOO

Here are some basics rules for crx-uk, if you stick to them everyone will be happy:

This is not max power, so dont act like it. No one really cares about what cars you might have beaten off the lights, or how fast you have gone on the public road, so save it.

We do not condone defrauding of insurance companies. This includes not declaring all modifications and fronting (insuring under parents etc) so kindly dont tell us.

If you have an outragous bodykit and ask what people think about it, expect to have people condem it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we are all old gits with no taste. Deal with it.

Dont spout unfounded information about engine modifications, especially superchips, stick with it and produce the dyno print out.

Dont use sms speak or otherwise shorten words. Other people make the effort, if you do this expect to be ignored by some and ridiculed by others.

If you post a pic of your car with neon anything expect to be banned (joke, but its worse than a bad bodykit!)

BEWARE OF MANF! In our case, 689R...

Do make a reasonable attempt at spelling and grammar.

If you are coming here to trade, please be honest and open and tell people you are a trader. We will out you if you dont so please dont lie about it. Nothing wrong with a honest trader and we have quite a few of them

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use the search tool. Its a great way of finding out information on things that have gone before. Common threads include:
Insurance. Its different for everyone, do a search and you will find the top companies that people are using.
VTEC controllers are a waste of time. Apexi type controllers are only as good as the person setting them up!
Wheel offset, different exhausts, basically most thing have come up form time to time. Even if you do need to post after a search, at least you have done it and found that your question hasnt been covered before.
Best budget coilovers - Been covered more times than most people have had hot dinners and the answer is always the same

THE ADMINS DECISION IS FINAL (and often bitchy)

We aim to have a laugh here, expect people to be scarcastic and blunt at times, but people do want to help others out, thats what the forum is about. Its difficult to put into words, but dont be a muppet and you will fit right in!!

Please remember that this is predominantly an EK9 forum, and as such topics completely unrelated to the EK9 may get a better response on a forum more directed at your particular model.

Now the general disclamer part:

While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. By clicking Register below you agree to be bound by these conditions.

IF YOU CLICK THIS YOU AGREE TO ALL OF THE ABOVE. IF YOU AINT READ IT OR IGNORE IT, DO SO AT YOUR PERIL

I added some suggestions based on this forum... :)

As I said, I would be happy to rewrite these to suit EK9.org so we aren't simply ripping off the CRX ones, but this is the general idea, it grabs you attention as being different to the generic forum disclaimer and is a light hearted way to lay down some basic rules to keep the repetitive drivel off the boards. :nice:

Personally i thought this was a forum for EK9 Enthusiasts AND NOT EK9 OWNERS....

This is why i think someone like me, who has not got an EK9 or has never had an EK9, should still be respected as much as someone who has 4 EK9's and owns a CIVIC TUNING COMPANY....

As i LOVE and Respect and want to know everything about the Honda Civic EK9 and this is why i joined the forum......
as far as i see it ALOT of the car scene (JDM more so) is alot about how much money you have to spend and how many rare parts you have and not about how much you appreciate and understand and respect cars and peoples work on their cars.

example i was lucky enough to have the chance to own an EG6 which lots of you have seen but anyway it had loads of Feels parts on it. anyway long story short This was by far the most rare amount of parts someone like me was able to afford if i had bought these parts and not bought them with the car it would have cost me like £12,000 but i cost a 3rd of that........ I was so happy to have all these rare parts on my car, but there are some people who will drop £1500 on wheels and change them a week later as they have more money than sense....
what i mean is its the same with the EK9....you are simply pricing me out...i cannot afford to buy one so does that rule me out ?????

it would be so unfair to make a section for people like me that cannot afford an EK9 but adore them to bits.
EK9.ORG is a quest for knowledge and understanding for me.....think what you want about me, but to move me and others to different parts of the forum i think its a pathetic thing to do.

its a case of stopping the IDIOTS and not people who don't own an EK9 or ask questions on specific EK9 topics.

i actually think it is quite SNOBBISH and ARROGANT to do what alot of you are talking about.
RVM has remained down to earth and stated he is an enthusiast who likes dc2's eg's and so on and stated sometimes he finds it interesting to read about other projects....

besides you can see my level of commitment to the forum as i am posting here and keep up to date with things like this.

RVM stay cool man and don;'let this thing get out of control by a couple of BIG headed users.

I don't think anyone has a problem with non EK9 owners being members of the forum....people are just getting fed up of EJ9 this and EJ9 that. Most of us appreciate all Honda's. Also there are lots of EJ9 members who are very welcome :))
It just tends to be new users not using the search button and not putting proper thought into their posts. Although we could be more patient with new users it just seems to be becoming a common thing.

I don't think the forum needs anything more than moderating...its not a major problem just a slight concern. Its still the best forum out there. We are just keen to keep it that way:))

Also i do like Kozy's Terms and Conditions :D

you are right in some parts, i first joined the forum with an eg i was just interested in ek9's and wanted to no alot more info on them!

i love an eg and dc2 as much as a ek9.

the only thing that gets to me is i always click "new posts" and sometimes when its filled up with people asking the same question somebody else has 2 minutes after.

other than that i dont think there is anything else anybody can do apart from hopefully get the word out to the new users!

I think the changes I make will not impact or restrict access to non ek9 users, chill out guys :D

We just need to make some "rules" clear to new users, right now I only added to custom "rules' I'll add more when I discuss them with moderators or I think they're completely necessary. :D

What I was suggesting was by no means meant to be 'snobbish' or 'arrogant' it's a valid point and the same reason that when I owned a Skyline GTT I did not join the GTR owners club, I found the club that catered for all models with specific knowledge of the lesser models. This is something that I don't see happening here. Of course there are sensible members with valid questions and views but there are so many threads popping up daily about bog standard Civics and all it does is make you feel like you've joined a general civic club.

In a way there has to be a level of snobbery that's what car clubs are about, its for fellow owners of the same cars to get together, put it this way what we have here is like a bunch of Man City supporters turning up at Man Utd match, yes they both like to watch football and they're both from manchester but that's just a recipe for diaster.

I'm not saying ban all non EK9 owners or even seperate them to the other sides of the site, but to try and control growth of non EK9 content as I feel that it cheapens the forum's value, Like I've said time over time, it's EK9.org its an EK9 club but the way things are going it soon won't be!

Personally I like to see threads about other cars, and there are a lot of non-EK9's that are much higher specced or have much nicer parts than my EK9 and to see that level of commitment and passion is awesome and it's great to see the other side of the Honda spectrum, but what I'm getting at is the wannabes that come on all gangster with their stupid questions that cover the same old crap and add no value.

What you can afford has no relevance, I own an EK9 because I couldn't afford a DC5, my mate drives an MX-5 because he couldn't afford an EK9 you're always gonna find that. I don't think the issue is that people look down on people for owning a lesser car but that in an environment geared towards a particular car it's to be expected that people may not have the same passion for it as you do.

Example: The yaris club, A guy with a pretty tasty Yaris sells up and buys a Twingo 133, Nice car, but on a club for Yaris's (and the non-Yaris owning members have mainly got Japanese cars) it didn't go down too well when he started banging on about his French car and how it was the best car in the world and would piss all over every other member's car. Up until that point people were somewhat interested in his project as like you said it was interesting to see a different topic.

You're never going to please everyone but there are ways of making things better and I feel the Admin and Mod team do a good job and the club has a great laid back nature which is somewhat lacking on other sites, but the side effect is that the vision has been lost a little in an attempt to grow.

I think Kozy has got it right in that department! at least with a decent set of T&C's if people take the piss they can be 'reminded' of them and action to remedy situations taken

If you guys want to see probably the most strict forum, visit guy crofts forum & read his terms. Extreme most will say, but appropriate in some cases.

I don't have an EK9 and personally I'm not the EK9's biggest fan but I do appreciate Honda engineering and the great car they produced in making the EK9, I use this site for the members cars section and builds/projects section.

The way the forum is laid out and the builds that this site attracts are incredibly interesting. Incidentally one of my friends pointed me to an Ek4 build posted on here hence why I signed up and started reading/posting, if it was solely EK9's I'd never have stumbled across it.

I think the forum layout and ease of use compared to the likes of civic-life make this site a massive success for all Honda owners not just EK9's and I see that as a great plus.

Agreed new members that just post random new posts or questions are annoying but you get that everywhere, I think you have to accept that with the internet. With a free decent forum full of great threads and helpful members comes annoying people, that's life.

If you want to be snobby and go EK9 owners only that would be the sites downfall and at the end of the day you own a car that without the previous civic models would never have existed.

Accept all and ignor the odd bad apple. Should you feel the need to be a snob go buy an exotic car and lunch at golf clubs on Sunday afternoons :nice:

That is possibly the worst personal view of a car club I've ever read.

No one has said ban all non-EK9 members! The idea was to help ALL members find the right information by keeping information in relevant sections.

Some are just flat out talking, maybe they think there is a competition to see who can get the most amount of posts in a short space of time. I.m on the site most days since 2007 think i.ve 500 posts.

Blitz- alright dude i hear what you're saying just if you read the thread from start to finish i don't think the overall outcome was " to help all new member use the search button" well thats not the way i read in to it, but if thats the case then i have no worries about that.... sorry to get het up about it, it would just annoy me alot if it went the other way i'm sure you understand..

So basically we just need to educate Lazy new members who would rather ask a dumb question than search for it themselves - this is something we can all do, doesn't need to just be mod's.

correct, it'll keep the forum a bit less cluttered as well although when people do inform the new users (or old users just not thinking ;)) please be friendly and helpfull and not cheeky and rude about it, thats one of the reasons the forum is as good as it is due to the good natured members we have here :nice:

How about 55 posts since 2007 :nice:

Im not sure I agree with some of the posts in this thread.

If you used to be an EK9 owner but arent anymore are you allowed to post in this forum? What happens if you got rid of the EK9 for better cars in the Honda range?
