Was thinking last night about the amount of random non-EK9 crap that gets posted here and remembered how when I signed up to the CRX forum years ago they had a custom written set of terms and conditions for signing up. It had the usual stuff about racism and other offensive posts, but then went on to say things like 'Don't bore us with pointless posts about VTEC controllers and technical questions about cars that are not CRX's.

I think something similar could be used here, lay down some ground rules on what is expected of users in terms of using the search function and some advice on what sort of things just aren't a focus of the general member base, i.e. 'wot 17s shud I get 4 my ej9 blud?'

Make sure people actually read it and I think it could cut down a lot of the repetitive off topic posts we seem to be getting.

Very good point, still think the site should have a user name password to enter.

x2 it would definitely cut alot of the crap being posted up. Most of the forums i be on require a user name and password to see the posts/topics etc...

People viewing the site un-registered is a different issue though, the people posting crap already have a user name and password.

Totally agree with both of what being said , making the site more secure and stopping the pointless posting .

Ive kept my mouth shut on this subject but i agree with Kosy , there is been to many pointless posts on here of late . Its spoiling a good forum , Ive learned so much on here since i joined through reading threads and stickys . Its just seems if no one is doing it anymore !!

agree with you guys there is alot of mince now appearing on the forum and its annoying, its up to rvm though to do something about it and he hasnt been on much recently. I think people forget this is an ek9 forum and not another random civic forum where any pointless crap goes. Hopefully some time in the near future though we can come up with some kind of system to prevent this as i know most of the dedicated members feel the same...

This is the critical bit. I know it's a bit cheeky coming from me as I don't even own an EK9, but I at least like to think my car and what I contribute is EK9 based. :D

I hear what you are saying and fully agree but where does it leave someone like me,????
I mean i don't own an EK9, i have owned an EK4 and now own an EG6 but i don't make pointless posts, and i like to read about any thing technical to do with Honda's ...
TBH i can't think of a way of clearing it up other than the mods being on it 24 hours a day which is un fair of course.
As Wishy said i too have learnt alot from the site by reading through a lot of old old posts that have been made sticky for someone like me to read up on certain things...its shame that people don't have the intelligence to use a search bar...

Obviously it's not fair to say you're not allowed in unless you own an EK9, but it should be made clear that the forum is predominantly EK9 based, so threads about cars not related to EK9s should be kept to a minimum. At least an EK4 has a B series in it, and shares a lot of mechanicals with the 9 so the majority of discussions can be applicable to both.

I think having the custom disclaimer on registration should go some way to highlighting this to people, there's no need to actually ban people from posting. Not yet anyway... ;)

I totally agree I'm getting also bait sick of going to new post and it's all "what free bits can I do to my 1.4 it already has a sub etc" the main reason I stopped going on civic life is because the same thing happened! It just seems to be conversations now and not about ek9s.

But at the end of the it's a public forum and I feel the bigger the better the forum more builds and info will be on here.

Also people need to use the off topic section

Rant over :)

it takes a while for the ground rules of what should and shouldnt be done to sink in if your new to the car scene or vtec scene

so much bullshit stigmata has tarnished the honda brand with knownothing gobshites looking to waste there pay check on the newest power increasing fad

i am now seeing how hard it it to get into a scene i know nothing about

i recently bought a 660cc yamaha raptor race quad and im starting from the bottom and working my way all the way to the top,

Restricting the forum as some you guys mentioned, will only kill the forum in a matter of 2 years, the information here has to be public, I hate to register to a forum just to read something that is guest/unregistered view protected, I just go to another place.

I know we have users that don't own ek9s, but I do love eg6s , dc5, dc2, etc, I'm a honda enthusiast and I don't mind reading threads about other hondas, in my case I've owned 2 dc2s, 1 eg6, 1 honda del sol, 1 ej6... hehehehe :D

Moderators are free to close or delete any thread that doesn't have any importance or relevance at all, I've personally deleted some.

I created this forum because I registered to other forums and people treated me like ****; I really don't want that ek9.org to become a forum as h-t or others..

:)

As RVM says, I think the forum needs to be kept public.

The 'For Sale' section has a set of rules which are easily found and clearly enforced, maybe 'General Chat' needs the same for a while until all these spammy threads are no longer a problem, as it seems to be taking the brunt of people's stupidity. The rules should clear up what is suitable to be posted and what isn't, could even add a stickied thread for 'stupid questions' from newer members much like K20.org has. As for other sections, I think it's something everyone will have to put up with and just keep drilling people to search before they ask.

Fair play and well said RVM, however restricting access wasn't the suggestion for the OP, merely that we could have a custom disclaimer/agreement/whatever it is when you register. Write 'boobies' or something in big letters in the middle of it so people actually read it, and just politely remind new users about text speak, the search function and posting random inane nonsense. I think it'll be more likely to be read than the stickies which are quite blatently ignored by a lot of people.

sorry if i dragged this off topic. but i feel some sections shouldn't be publicy viewable such as the buying and selling sections as well as members rides. I totally agree with kozy with what he said in the previous post as it would help to prevent alot of repeatition.

As I put in my reply to the topic about searching:

Why not create seperate sections for EK9 and Other Civic Models, that way people can find information more easily and people who don't care for the 'lesser' models don't have to read that stuff. Very simple but would keep people happy.

I agree though that people should be made aware that this is a predominantly EK9 site that's what its called, not ek9/4/3ej/eg/dc/s2000/mymumusedtoownahyaundaithathasahbadgetoo.com/jdmyo! I feel as an EK9 owner the site should be tailored to them.

also with for sale threads I think there needs to be some sort of rules with titling or again sub section for parts that wont fit an EK9, I hate seeing a thread advertising something nice sounding only to open it up and find it wont fit an ek9 (4 stud wheels for example)

I can restrict Member's Rides for users with X amount of posts and I can Create a forum called "other civics" or something similar for threads regarding ef, eg for example. :)
