Pretty much what the title says.

Exactly how much oil (litres) does the standard B16b sump take when completly empty?

Cheers,
Josh..

prob 4,5 is a completely empty engine like after a rebuilt.

on my last change my b18c (same with b16b i think :D ) it took 3,7
im not sure exactly but i used a full 2liter bottle of motul 300v and a second one that had left about 300-400ml of oil on it.

The ek9 manual says that it should be filled with 3.8 US qt oil (3.6 L 3.2 Imp qt), it all depends on the coditions (rebuild, new type of filter etc)

My recommendation is to add 3.7 liters of oil, let the engine run for several minutes and check the drain bolt and oil filter for leaks.

Turn off the engine, let it sit for several minutes, then check the oil level, if necessary, add oil to bring the level to the upper mark on the dipstick.

Mods: please edit out Kaks incorrect info before someone damages their engines :|

"rvm" is totally correct there :))

i always seem to be left with approx 300ml or near when using 4 litre container.
on a fresh rebuild etc it prob take slight bit more :nice:

Thanks for the info guys, suprising how much variation there is between how much oil people put in there cars.

Josh..

If you drain it with a hot engine and fit a new Honda filter, it will take exactly 4L

thats weird... my b18cR always finishes 4 l and it only reaches min mark at the dip stick . do u think there is a difference in the oil pan size?

Steven is right. If you change the oil when hot, then all the old oil should come out. According to the service manual for the B engine, it should be exactly 4 litres with a Honda Oil Filter.

I have scanned a photo of the Mugen REV-R catalog where it lists all the oil capacity for Honda Sports models. The column on the left is without oil filter change, on the right is with a Honda oil filter.

Do you guys drain it from HOT or COLD?
Isnt it better to drain it COLD. that way ALL the oil is in the sump.
