hi people,
on my last MOT it was an advisory that i change the passanger trailing arm bush as it was starting to wear, about 3months ago i brought a set of energy suspension trailing arm bush's because i knew they needed changeing. i have recently put my coilovers on (i inspected the bush and there was a tear starting to form) and after tonight testing the coilovers im pretty sure the bush is totaly shot not as it creaky and bangs over nearly every bump. im just wondering if anyone has done them before? ive done a 2 year mechanics course and ive worked in a few garages and ive never done a trailing arm bush is it just a case of burn the old bush out, press new bush in, insert the cross pin and tighten everything back up??.....im scared

yea pretty much how you said mate I did mine a few months back I just took the arm off burn the old bush out with a blow torch then inserted the new energy bush then put the center pin in and make sure it's in the rite way round bolt it all back up and your done! hope this helps!

same here burn old bushing out. did some getto **** to push bushing in the arm. took me all most hour each side.

cool, thanks for the info guys :), am i right in saying that the bush will come out one way and the new one will go in thew oposite way? whats the best way of doing it without takeing the arm off?

Do not install the ES bushings!! It is well known that those ES trailing arm bushings are pure crap, they cause the RTA to bind!! Yank them out and replace with one of 3 options:

1. OEM
2. Mugen
3. PCI Spherical

There is no other option aside from the 3 above for RTA bushing in my book.

As far as install goes you can do it on the car, use a big C clamp to press them out, you can use the same method to press the new ones in. There is a special tool that makes the job 10x easier but i have no idea what its called or where to get it. Try the C clamp method, worse case scenario be prepared to remove the RTA entirely and take it to a shop to have old bushings pressed out and new ones pressed in.

Mine need doing also and have OEM waiting to go in. After seeing a mate do this job on my old EG6 though I'm gonna go with the above option - definately not a job I wanna do on the driveway!! At least you know it's been done properly that way too.

sorry to sound retarded but what do you mean bind???
why are they known for being shite? dont they last every long?
any what do you mean worst case scenario? what could go wrong?... lol

They will not be able to move the way they are intended to and pressure will be placed on the RTA itself and it will try to flex!

No, for every 1 person who has success with them there appears to be at least twice more that had them wear out in less than 6 months, and they squeak too.

Is English not your primary language? Honest question here because i can't see how you could not understand what I'm saying unless English is not your primary Language, if you had filled out your profile i would have known.

yeah english is my primary language. you havent said what thew worst case senario is during fitting though so thats why i asked lol

Oh i thought it was kind of obvious, worse case scenario is you can't remove the bushings on your own and you need to have a shop do it, hence you will have to be prepared to remove the parts...

been runing my for while now. i dont do turns with my car like i used too befor i replace mine.

I just use a hammer and drift a couple of hits and the old one is out, you may need to taper the new bush sleeve as they can some times be a pain and keep popping out, just be careful with the right hand side as it's very close to the fuel tank, also if you have ABS it may be a good idea to undo the 10mm retaining bolts for the cable just move it out of the way just so you don't hit it with the hammer.

Also need to undo the rear toe adjuster (mark it with a centre punch or tip ex)
and the rear camber arm, just so you can bring arm down enough to hit it.

ill remember that about the abs sensor thanks mate

Fitted mine ages ago...

Been re-m.o.t twice since an had no bother...

they dont squeek at all!!!!! just use the lube they giv u....

and if there the same as the ones i fitted u leave the metal outer in place an press the bush into that.. then insert the pin as said earlyer...

I did my whole car with no more than a vice an an air saw!!!!

had a look today, jacked the rear of the car up and they rubber bush bit from the top mount was sticking out alot so took the top mount off and the rubber is pretty worn, could it be this that is causeing the knocking sound? ive put it all back togeather and took it a test drive and the knock is still there but nowhere near as bad as it was. still need to do the RTA bush but if this is causeing the knock then its one worry out the way and ill do the RTA bush soon. does anyone know where i can get the top mount bush bit from? i carnt get them through my work so would it be a honda OEM special lol if so anyone know the part number as ive looked on the net and carnt find it anywhere :(

starting your own thread would of been ok mate :nice: instead of bring this old one back up not a problem tho, As for the rear lower control arm bushes, some members on this forum have been able to get hold of them others not, i spoke to honda when i needed a set and they told me they dont sell them and i would need to buy the whole arm.

i have a passenger side lower arm with good bushes for the ek4/9 you can have cheap if your just in need of one arm.

Says here that the bush alone is not available.

Best going for aftermarket items.

True, but it is nice to see that some members DO search for these things first, he should be appluaded for that as it doesn't happen very often!
