received my Spoon Fix damper and Progressive springs!!

can't wait to get it fitted! :drive:

nice! I envy you lol! hope you can write a review or something :)

yeah right a review, let us know how you like them compared to stock ek9 :nice:

the problem is I never had a stock EK9!!

maybe you remember me saying my bouncy shocks and very harsh ride, hence I got these, should be more suited to everyday use.

non the less I will comment on how they feel.

got these on just earlier and had a short drive home in them.

1st impression. compare with the coilover I had, although it is blown at the front. In the first Instance I felt less feedback and responsiveness in the steering.

after driving this all changed. The car really rides the road really well, absorbs the roughness and bumps. BUT remain informative.

car feels really firm and tight, and it just really glides over bumps.

On cornering, theres a small difference in the instant sharpness from the previous Coilover, which was super stiff.
With the Spoon suspension, it feels much effortless on the whole car, it is hard to describe as I can almost say it turns in and corner just as well as stiff coilovers but it is really smooth in the cornering.

I think the loading on the car is really good now, as it rides the bump nicely and on turns in and corners its just effortless! I think I can take turns even faster now.

another thing is I can really feel the 4 wheels, which I couldn't before as it was just a complete hard ride before and just got shakens to bits.

I can not compare to standard EK9 as I never driven one, however compare to my friends 98spec ITR. It almost feels similar but with a lot more feedback and less roll, as well as more grip(could be down to tyres/EK9). but without/or little compromise/unnoticeable on comfort or road handling.

with the ITR it feels a bit floaty, and lose grip on that floaty-ness...EK9 feels solid and positive.

this was just from a 40min drive home, will give more when I feel more and had a proper go at it.

*look* picture taken straight when fitted, so hasn't settle it has gone a bit lower, will get some daylight pics when I can.

These sound good.. Have you a picture of the car to show how it sits with these on? I'm looking to upgrade my suspension but don't want to go the route of a full coilover...

edit*LOL i know it looks really high, but thats when it just got fitted, its settled now.

will get some pics when I can, but these are stated to be 20mm lower than standard.

I don't know how much difference the Spoon dampers are to the standard ones, I really need to try out a standard EK9.

the reason i didn't want full coilover is that I know I will ever be prone to adjusting the buggers and never be happy with it.

I almost want close to standard feel and have a good usability on road, and since standard EK9 suspension is waayy expensive I went this route.

What I reckon is that the springs really makes the loading of the car really positive, I don't know but i am guessing if you got the Progressives on standard shock it will make the car feel more positive. (only a guess)

nice write up :) looking forward to newer pics :)
Quick Q though, was this at the last bluewater meet?

Nice write up, do you mind that I move this thread to the resource area section? also the name of the thread will be renamed, let me know :)

More intense driving review:

OK took the car out for some good driving in the weekend.

Normal riding condition is quite firm, it is definitely not comfortable as a passenger. But For me the driver I didn't get this car for comfort really, so it is acceptable in that way I guess. again going over bumps at speed is not a problem, before with the coilovers the cars jumps and loses sense and control.

Driving it hard, it gave me a lot more confidence going into a corner, partly due to the fact that roads are never smooth and the car doesn't get upset by it.

The car has a neutral feel, I used that term because I can feel so much in the car, and the back end kind of start getting light and the front also starts to give. hence it gives me th feel of going sideways, therefore I know to ease off the gas.

OR

Power through the exit, the car feels so good if you keep the car in VTEC at corner exits. its like on rails!

the 9 is so controllable! :win:

Looking good mate, where did you get the spoon shocks and springs ??

I know I'm bringing this thread back from the dead, but he hasn't stated where he got it from. Does anyone know where I can order these springs and dampers? I'm having trouble finding a site to buy them. Thanks.

Spoon Sports Europe

I have these on my EK4, and I must say they are simply superb. Much like Tmus says they are not as stiff as most coilovers, but this is the exact reason they are so good, they can soak up bumps mid corner without upsetting the balance of the car, everything feels firm but composed, where other suspensions can feel crashy and twitchy.

An excellent setup all round really! :nice:
