EK4 budget racer

The cage is finished and looks awesome.
I managed to fill up the back of the car with crap by the time I got my camera out so I haven't taken any photos of it. Hopefully will have some soon to put up.

For the time being I can bore you with this....

Not actually connected to anything yet, but I fitted the cut-off and extinguisher pull into my radio blank and test fitted the centre console back in place.

And you can see my light weight door handle solution in this one (the bit of of orange webbing and the black bit of cable). Cutting edge, hitech, high end racing stuff I know :win:
Also you just about see the little little bracket for my electric window control I made up using polymorph. It's a little bit crap, but it does the job.

Got a few days off this week so hopefully if the weather stays good I'll have a decent bit of daylight time to get some stuff done. Some of the fruits of my labour today....

Fitted my rainlight and bracket. Took a lot of trial and error to get the bends right. Not the easiest thing when you've got no vice or anything similar available. Done the best I could with planks of wood and body weight lol

I tapped into the live for my foglight to power it (which saves having to install a switch and running a wire from the dash) splicing it to a wire left behind when I removed the rear wiper which is a damn sight easier and trying to run my own wire into the boot lid.
Unfortunately I found out last night that I accidently chopped out all the wiring for the foglight switch on a previous day thinking it was for the now defunct electric mirrors, so had to waste a fair bit of time undoing that damage. It works now anyway though. Just needs painting (ssb ftw :D) and some sealant to glue the LED cluster in place.

Made myself a little bracket to hold the end of the cut-off cable pull

And on a previous day Mike of R-Motion kindly fitted the cable pulls to the scuttle panel and put in some captive nuts to fix my ECU to the foot well.

really coming together now, that cage is nuts

Nice update James, What have you done with the old cage?

Bet you cant wait to go racing!!

Looks like your in about the same state of readiness as me James :nice:, good work on the rain light, wish mine wasnt tinted. My ecu is a real mess, another job.

You running 888's for Pembrey?

Cheers lads.

Si - The old cage is sitting at R-Motion still. I think Mike wants me to take it home with me so I'll be taking it away when I'm next down. If you're interested, or know someone who is, let me know please mate. I'm not after much for it.

Chris - Think I'm going to try and get a set of Yokes before then. That R888 showing in the boot is the only good one I got. Two of them are low on tread and I thought the otherone was going to burst it was giving me such bad vibrations at Donington.

Im stuck with my V70's, got some other expenses to deal with, leaving me with no money for new 48's! Im guessing you have been round Pembrey, any tips?! :naughty:

Look´s very good. This color is pretty nice in EK models. Nice project.

Coming along nicely mate!

Only drove there once which was 5 years ago I think (apart from doing my ARDS of course). But from memory...
Turn 1 - standard hairpin. Nice corner, nicely cambered and wide so you tend to get away with it if you go in too hot.
turn 2 - Flat down but might have to short shift on the little straight before to avoid changing mid corner. Positive turn in and try to finish in the middle/two thirds of the track so you can get back over to the right for the next turn.
turn 3 - think this just a lift/feathered throttle. Positive turn in.
turn 4 - the entry is a slight left curve but try and keep to the right until you see the apex (where there's a big bit of extra tarmac) and then turn in taking a big clip of the apex. All feathered throttle.
turn 5 - think it's just a short dab of the brake, the look of it makes you want to turn in too early.
turn 6 - quite sharp and again the apex is later than it looks on entry.
turn 7 - flat out and a little bit ballsy
turn 8 "Honda" - similar to Camp at Combe and Riches at Snetterton - tricky to get your speed right.

Cheers lads.

Yeah I'd be intrested in the cage, it's a bolt in dash dodge irc? What sort of price you looking at for it? Drop mr a pm or text ;-)

Fruits of my recent labours as the date looms and I creep ever closer to having a race car

Extinguisher is in
sam1663.jpg

sam1669r.jpg

Refitted the centre console and tidied up my cut-off wiring, extinguisher lines and cable pulls

sam1666.jpg

Rain light bracket painted and light sealed in place
sam1667j.jpg

Fitted some smarter battery terminals for no reason in particular
sam1671y.jpg

Used an Autoleads junction in order to split the main battery feed from the cut-off to the fusebox, the relays and to run another line to go back to the cut-off
sam1672u.jpg

Relocated my electric window switch again. Looks a bit of a nutty position but it's easy enough to find when driving.

I've now got a brand new set of A048s now on the car using my silver wheels. I'm booked in tomorrow to have my roof vinyl patched and the trickier decals put on for me. After that I've just got some little tidying up jobs and I'm all set :D
