Dyno results! Really chuffed

Do people still get excited over dyno results ?

By the looks of it a badger swinging a nob around interests you so I doubt a dyno graph even comes close to the excitement.

Thanks

Nice Power Ben, bet you're happy with that :nice: at the end of the day that's all that counts, There will always be someone with more power etc i don't know why people bother to compare really. Its your car, you're happy = happy days :D

Agreed! Too much Willy waving involved with the dyno sheets. (Not badger willies)
Decent results but still a pinch of salt to be taken. I've got similar spec with s300 and only make 203. Friends dc2 similar spec again 203.

I'm a bit confused, if it's 171 wheel horse power then it's losing near 50 hp through the drive train?

Seems a bit much to loose

Didn't see the whp figure on the graph?
That figure makes more sense to me, mines 174 whp. Not sure how they've calculated that high a lose %?

This is the same as my opinion of it at the end of the day there will always be someone with more power. I'm happy with how it drives and having owned and been passenger in several of them I know it drives well and that's all I'm concerned about.

So your car is mapped on a s300 with similar mods but only made 203bhp. Are you saying mine is over reading or yours is under reading ? Because if I had mine mapped and it only made 203bhp I would be slightly disappointed even if all of these figures are to be taken with a "pinch of salt" ?

But as I have mentioned above I been around several of these engines and they are seriously hit and miss as to wether there any good or not which I'm sure we are all aware ......

Lol, each to their own. I prefer to live in "reality" rather than on paper. What ever makes you happy though....

Anyway, don't disrespect the badger kid.... Unless you like walking around with a saw arse...

I bought the car already mapped etc, I haven't been on a dyno with it myself but the sheet I have says 203. The engine will be tested again in a few months for a race regulation I have to meet a certain hp/ton limit. So I'll find out then.
Our wheel hp figures are similar. Mines actually higher. So how your dyno says 218 and mine says 203 I'm not so sure about how it's calculated.

So because my car on paper has made more power than another with the same/similar modifications it means it's not realistic ?

Can't say I would be first in the que to take a visit from the badger thou I'm afraid.....

So if you get you car dynoed again and it makes more power is that going to mean its right or is it going to mean its a unrealistic figure ?

As far as the difference from whp to bhp goes I'm not sure how that's calculated but I do agree it seems quite a difference.

You make a good point, I'd be interested to see other runs and what the whp is and calc hp from that.
Not trying to play your results down, your cars clearly fast just from the whp figure. just real curious as to how yours reads high(or mine low on the calculation) this is why I said "pinch of salt" because our cars make the same whp yet different hp? Would bet my bottom dollar the cars would be neck and neck in a drag so where's the extra 15-20hp gone? Or come from?

I'm in the situation where I'm looking for a low figure because I know my car goes well and the lower the engines power(on this specific dyno sheet) the more weight I can shed from the car, helping to improve its performance further.

Yeah I think without looking at the sheets it's 171whp.

Your wheel HP sounds about right for a healthy engine running your mods but realistically that WHP does not translate to the bhp figure you got, well it certainly wouldn't on my Dyno Dynamics, you would be looking at 200-205 bhp if putting down 170whp. The % percentage difference from flywheel to WHP is rather high for a FWD car on that dyno.

WHP is the more realistic figure when quoting power figures off a chassis dyno/rolling road as this is what the dyno is actually measuring!

Did the dyno operator discuss with you how your engine was actually running? Because looking at that air/fuel ratio plot your engine is running rather lean between 4-5000rpm and at the top end, 8500rpm+ it starts to get on the lean side again. I would try address this with either reverting back to OEM ecu and see how fueling is or get a mapable ecu and have it custom mapped for your engine.

12-15% loss is about the normal if I remember correctly from back in the day,

This sort of topic/debate used to come up on here all the time,

Nah, what I'm getting at is that it is just a piece of paper with ink on it. Go out and make a few videos of you tearing the streets up if you really want to show us what it does ;) . I just get lost sometimes of how people get so excited over dyno graphs. Ok, they're good to give you a rough idea of your cars power output; but to get an erection over the fact you made X amount more than someone else ??? Nah... There are toooooo many variables to account for unless we're talking about significant figures.

The dyno used was a dastek, I could only assume that they calculate the power lost through the gearbox differently ? According to the lads there it had recently been re calibrated as lotus had hired it out for 6 weeks to test one of there electric cars.

To be honest he said it was running really well and was quite surprised it made the figures it did, being mainly a Subaru man he doesn't get involved in mapping Hondas nor did he directly recommend having it done. I know it's a bit of a old school way of checking if things are ok or not but the plugs are a lovely chocolate colour......

15% loss through the box does seems to sound familiar but again I'm not no expert on how this is calculated or why it's showing more than a 15% loss.

We'll you clearly haven't read a word I have wrote. I don't care how much power it's made it's a toy, if I wanted a "powerful" car I would go buy another one.

After a quick look through your profile I see your trying to build a 400whp engine. Now why would you be aiming for 400whp if it's only a "piece of paper with ink on it" or are you doing it so you "get an erection over the fact you made x amount of power more than someone else"

After all even if your "piece of paper with ink on it" said you had 400whp it wouldnt be accurate........ right?

and

significant figures.

Nah, I ain't read anything you've said other than after my first post. As soon as I see one of these "dyno numbers" threads I just kind of think "yeah.. It is what it is..." . Like I say - each to their own. You don't have to agree with me... We all have our own opinions. What would you rather me say though ? Nothing ?? What you want to hear (WOW !!! WELL DONE YOUR CAR IS SIIIIIICK !!!!) ??? or what really goes through my head ??

I take it you don't take life lightly ??? Do other peoples opinions count a little too much if they aren't what you want to hear ??? What should matter is what YOU think/feel. My, and other peoples opinions should be recognised and acknowledge, but overall they shouldn't have an impact on your initial outlook.

I think your missing the point here my old fruit.

I have quite simply put a picture of MY dyno graph up because I was impressed with what "figure" it's made. Now there was no need for you to even comment if you have nothin constructive to say. telling me that know one gets excited over dyno graph figures ? Again if this is the case your contradicting yourself by "trying" to build a 400whp engine. Surely you should just build an engine and be happy with what ever it makes ? But reading through all your preaching you should already know this.

I' take everyone's opinion on board the same as anyone else does if you comment/criticise on there thread.
