Hi peeps :) basicly after some advice
So, when i start my car from stone cold the engine rattles for about a couple of seconds and once the oil pressure gets up it stops and sounds fine, ive done 3 oil and filter changes since buying it last october so the oil is very clean, i let it warm right up before even revving to 6k

So does anyone know why or if its a common problem? I was thinking in the winter (if it doesnt get worse before then) whipping the engine out fitting new big end bearings oil pump and LMA's along with clutch and cambelt, is it worth it?

all engines are a little rattly for a second or two till pressure gets up

is it bad and is it fine once pressure gets up ?

fit a gauge before you rebuild to see what the pressure is running at

I know they are a little noisy anyway but it sounds like more of a knock than a top end tap, as soon as the oil light goes out it stops and sounds fine, when i go to it in the morning start it, it takes 3-5 seconds for the light to go off sometimes im using castrol 5w/30 edge mabe its a little to thin and just drains back? What oil do you guys run? I have 10w/40 semi synth at work should i try that?

Ash

Get a video up of it.

Also note that oil takes approx 10 miles before up to full temperature. Water takes only a few minutes.

I have the same thing , it rattles for about 3-4 cycles then its fine ?

Can't put video's up unfortunatly ian :( im aware the oil takes longer than coolant to warm up :) i would get some guages but there so pricey! Hmmm b18 time????? :D

b18c r and you will be very hapy!!!!good luck

Could it also be the lost motion assembly? Just not sure if that noise would disappear after it warms up is all.

Ill do the LMA's on the rebuild am i right in saying there are newer version LMA's available for the b series? Or shall i just get some normal ones?

Ash

Could be the bearings in your distributor.
I had the same problem on my teg few years back, it used to rattle on cold start up sounded absolutly horrid a new dizzy sorted it.

Get the spring type version, not OEM.

big understatement bro, i dont even rev past 4k, "even to 6k" - Ouch! lol:nono:

I mean i never go anywhere near the change over point! 3-4 is what it try to stick at and usually alow the engine to idle for a couple of mins before i set off, god im making myself sound like a proper dick lol im a mechanic so know how to treat a car lol

So, what are you thinking of doing to track the noise down?
