As for the diesel powered Type R, that sounds cool. Loads of torque :D How much does an FN2 weigh?

I doubt it will be as good as you think.

VTEC = REVS, No REVS = No fun!

My mate has a Type S FN2 Disease-el mapped, and its kicking out 195 bhp/400NM Torque :wow:

But still not ever going to be the thrill of a singing petrol engine in my eyes!

B Series FTW!

Josh..

Interesting development. Though I doubt a 180hp diesel with very limited power band will be enough power and if it will be good for the track (unless they rev easily to 4500-5000rpm like BMW diesels) . Besides that, it's high revving thats part of the Type R feel.

And then there is cornering; diesel engines are much heavier and the turbo and all it's ancilleries aren't light as a feather either. So more understeer.

Well my dad has the new 2.2cdti or w.e
and that's 0.60 in 8.6 with less power then that so a stripped out more powerful one would fly
and aparently you can remap the 2.2 to close to 200 bhp
so remap the type R diesel and you on to a winner

i wonder what it ll rev up??
theres going to be so much power in such a short rev range:drool:

If it's a turbo diesel there will be serious room for more power on the factory motor, i would expect at least 280whp and 350wtq with supporting mods and ems.

The opposite of regular Type R boxes is the solution: a long gearbox. It won't rev so high no matter what you do; diesel burns slowly, too slow to rev high. Expect 4500-5000rpm redline.

280whp??? Thats like 320bhp! 145hp per litre out of a diesel??? Even the Audi R10 Diesel Le Mans racer doesn't come close with an estimated 127hp litre! I think you're being a bit optimistic here.

Of course it can be done, everything can be done. But when you're talking about realistic numbers that are reachable for people with les than a few million on their bank accounts and keeping things reliable, I think it's too high of an estimate.

Its all good and well pumping lots of power out of the TD engine's but the gearbox will soon put a hault to how far you can go. Turbo diesel's produce peak torque very quickly once turbo spools, this sudden torque curve is very harsh on gearboxes. Currently there is a lack of uprated transmission/gearbox parts for the diesels so putting together a gearbox which can handle the power is not easy. Im basing this on the VAG diesels, honda may have put together a good gearbox for this type r diesel so who knows what the limits are:naughty:
BMW seem to have made some great developments on there diesel range. i.e the E90 335d producing 265 bhp, 425 lb·ft torque and they have a decent rev range due to the twin turbo setup.

Ok,thanks for answering my quiry:nice:

diesel is ****

HTH

i wouldn't say that they are very good engines for city runabouts/motorway cruzing with good mpg if thats what want/need. but as a performance engine yer your right there ****
