Hi guys trying to get opinions on what engine is better value for money.

i know a lot of yous have done conversions and as i am no longer going ahead with my k swap on the jordan i am buying a new civic in the next few weeks, however i have seen a few with b18c's in them and one with a k20.

I know that k swaps getting raving reviews etc however i have heard that b18c's as well as being cheaper to do can still be a better option.

bare in mind i am buying the car with one of these conversions already done, however the prices for the cars are quite different

any opinions would be great.

these are the two cars i am trying to make a decision over:

Honda Civic EK K20 for sale in Cork: €0 - DoneDeal.ie

or

Honda Civic B18c6 Type R for sale in Cork: €7,500 - DoneDeal.ie

cheers

they're both shite, when people cant write propler english when selling a car and are too lazy to put down all the informtion it puts me right off.

I've a b18c conversion done on my car and it was the best bang for buck I spent on the car. As for a k20 ek I can't say much about them as I haven't been in one but I do know they cost a good more to convert them into a ek. There's always the possibility of getting more power from a k20 though

wait till the weekend and i might help you make your mind up ;)

Its really depending on the car and if the owner didnt cut corners which you will only know when your viewing the car in person.
And travelling from Scotland will be a long way for a dissapointment and waste of money..

Personally I dont like either but I know that k20 one is nippy enough , and the yellow civic isnt a ek9 if your thinking it is! Bad paintjob looking from those pictures.

As above, I would stop looking in Ireland its too far, first you travel to look at the car, then you travel again to pick it up, unless you take cash, which you should never do as you can be blinded by the car and make a mistake.
There has been quite a few nice B18 EK9's for sale recently, If you have that kind of money just be patient for something closer to home, 18 or 20...

I say b18c simply because its much easier to work with and k20 has alot more work to be done, but then again your thinking of buying a civic with the conversion already done!

k20 deffinately has more power and torque
but
b18c is the more aggressive and raw engine

have you seen the two ek9's around tsukuba? one with k20 and 1 with b18c, both spoon!

b18c is actually quicker by like a second or something

here they are:

YouTube - Spoon EK9 Tsukuba Hot Lap by Tsuchiya (dori-dori)

YouTube - SPOON K20 EK9 SWAP(HQ)

never been in a k20 civic but like someone said they are getting rave reviews!
hope you make the right descision :)

Complete crap.

never been in a k20 civic

It shows.

The video round tsukuba is terrible evidence, one car has perfect gear ratios for that track and one car has been built by spoon to 'show' they can do it, using s2000 spoon calipers etc. Put them on a different track with longer straights and better setup on the k20 and watch the b18c get left behind.

As iv said dan, k20 everysingle time.

Iv raced alex's car a few times and the difference is massive.

This is has just turned out to be whats the best K20 or B18

B18 is much better bang for your buck, you can have one in your EK9 for about a grand if you can install yourself.

For a K20 youd need a further 4k at least - wheres the value in the extra 30hp, 20ft lbs & an extra gear???

B18 wins this argument hands down.

if you look in the descritption in the b18 video it says 260ps, hardly a fair comparison

Not taking away from the cars for sale or disrespect to anybody from cork but my mams side of the family are from down there and the roads are horrific they make shite of your car! The situation is so bad I drive a 1 litre micra from Dublin to cork whenever I go down! My be low millage cars but they felt every single mile of it!

As for the choice between the 2 I've never driven a k20 ek but have been beaten on a few occassions in by b16b ek9 so deffinatley a huge peformance difference!

Well said. No arguments the K20 is the better engine, but at the cost of the conversion, it is not the best VFM.

689R - when i say ive never been in a k20 civic i mean the older generation i owned an EP3 for a year and thats no where near as aggressive as the b18c, so it just goes to show i do know!

I only put the tsukuba videos on here to show, and they are both spoon ek9's

i never said the k20 was slow in anyway, a k20 would be a good choice if hes buying the car already converted but if he was to do it himself it would cost alot more money and time to do the k20

thats all i was saying soo!

Barryl85, kozy, alan168 - this is what im trying to say! b18c is best bang for buck
