Anyone any intrest in an EM1 race car build?....


Opened up the gearbox last night.
Good news:
diff moves freely in the casing,
everything looks straight with no apparent damage.
Bearings in the diff look good

Bad news:
Need new 3rd + 4th syncho set
Locking problem still exists within the diff, with my hunch of the plates being too closely shimmed as the #1 suspect.

Took the diff apart today and comparing it to an ATS 1.5 way lsd it looks pretty similar except we could tell that my diff is 2 way and is very aggressive. The jumper plate inside the diff seemed to be on a harsh setting so we changed the settings and put the diff back together. The friction plates are pretty much like new so no problems there :)
Just paid for a brand new set of carbon synchro rings and im trying to find a 3rd/4th gear hub ring as the teeth dont seem to healthy on mine. When i have that i can put the box back together and bolt it back in.

Just picked up a new 3rd/4th hub ring and sleeve tonight so thats going back into the box in exchange for the fooked hub ring :)
I also bought myself a spare cruching s80 box this evening but the diff, gears and final d seem to be good so gonna rebuild this in my spare time :)
Gonna get busy in the garage over the next few days getting the car ready for next week

Rightey-o, what a day am absolutely wrecked!
The good news is that i got a good bit of track time under my belt today and the car felt quick.
New brake lines worked the business as well, felt strong all the time.

Bad news:
Blew a dizzy
Diff is completely wanked
Broke a few brackets on the front splitter after i hit a kerb too hard....eek!!!
Car is hunting like mad...gonna get that sorted asap though...time to put in an IACV and adjust a few things.

Got the GPS enabled on the camera so should have videos shortly :)
 
First official 2012 touring car practise day is this Friday!
I think im all set to go :D

Nice build and progress thread mate!! Great work and looks like alot of fun!
 
50laps or so completed so pretty happy with that.
Front caliper sliders look to be siezed and ive a bit of a problem with rear brake pressure but i think thats an easy fix ;)
Fried an ignition switch again, so gonna take a bit of load of that and run on a seperate relay.
Had a leaky fuel regulator as well but i managed to sort that early in the day.
A few other very small issues but that was it.
Very confident about everything else. The car is well setup, handles well and has plenty of power :)

Seems as thought all the mjor problems that you started to discover have stopped and just little niggles now!
