what box should i run with my stroked b16b..the engine is basically a b18 now.

the box i have now is s4c ek9 lsd, but havin used it yet because engine not in yet..

was thinkin of using s80 98 spec box but lookin for opinions please as i have no experience with either box?? :drive:
 
Can also use S4C with OS Giken 4.533 Final Drive. Yes 4.785 is a nice box for town.
 
Stick with the S4C I think they suit the b18c nicely.
 
you will be faster until the end of third with the 98 spec/uk ITR box, the s4c catches up in fourth. (point proven on type-r legends best motoring vid....and the 98 had larger wheels which would have made it slower with gearing matched)

since at all legal road speeds the s80 will perform the best, thats the one i would choose. If you do a lot of track work then you need to look at wheter the s4c suits you best but otherwise s80 does have the edge.

have have had an ITR with both boxes, and have also had both boxes in b18'd eg civics so i do have experience of what i'm advising you.

Im completely happy with the S4C box on my B18. Rips through the gears quickly no problem. I havent felt it needs any shorter gears at all. Maybe 5th could be a tad shorter for better response when changing but thats it. And all gears are nicely matched when changing as oppose to the drop from 3rd to 4th on the S80. On the B16B i feel a shorter ratio box would be nicer.

you need to decide if motorway cruising rpm, or 4th and 5th gear acceleration is more important.

for road use i'd probably say the s80, but if you never drive on motorways anyway then s4c/4.7 sounds nice.
 
wud do little bit of motorway milage alright...i just want a box that will give me the edge over tegs etc

greatly improves accelration but rpm's sit to high for lot of peoples liking, been in itr with s80 and 4.9 fd several years ago and big difference but revs did sit high and put lot of people of car when he came to sell

the later s80 with oem 4.7 fd with vti 4th and 5th is a fantastic box in my eyes, for fun and car feel i prefer it to close ratio boxes but is that little slower in accelration than close ratio box, depends what owner wants
 
It will be quicker but severely cut on your top speed (about 110-120mph AFAIK) and less usable if you do a lot of motorway cruising because of the very high rpm's in 5th gear when cruising. 4.7 would be the ideal compromise if you want to swap FD but still use the car for motorway cruising.
 
use the EK9 box with 195 50 15 tyres on your wheels, best of both worlds,,
 
and if i stay with my s4c 4.4 will it be anyway good??

would lets say a b18 with s4c have the edge over b18 with s80?
 
There is VERY VERY VERY little difference in using either box

If you have a S4C then just use it
