As the title says.
Im looking to upgrade to a 'short throw' gear stick/lever, does anyone have any recommendations or reviews on any they have used?

The sites I have been looking at state that - shift movement can be reduced by up to 40%, I was wondering how is this possible from a lever the same length, only having different bend(s) angles?

Cheers,
Josh.

it works on a different pivot point. i tried a 'tenzo r' in mine, hated it, took it out the same day. it didn't fit right, and didn't feel confident.

the ek9 throw is already quite short, so i would leave it.. but thats me

hey m8 i got my civic jordan with 1 in it its really short but feels great to drive with it unsure of brand tho

you are referring to short shifter? :)

ONLY use OEM ITR or CTR shifter, after market shifters are CRAP and will damage your gearbox!! I personally use an OEM Integra GSR shifter I have had 3 different "short" shifters and the GSR has been the best, i would only replace it for an ITR or CTR shifter.

i've had plenty of the ones off ebay for about £15 and no problems on my other civics, that said the oem ek9 one feels perfect hence why i haven't changed it

ive just ordered a buddy club racing short shift, energy shifter bushings and spoon gear change rod ill let you know what thats like after ive recieved and fitted it:nice:

mine came in the country witha short shifter. Completely unknown make but it feels absolutley lovely. Nice short and precise.

Would be nice if you could try and find out! If its a half decent brand then it should have some laser etched mark or sticker on it somewhere?

After what Blinkx said im thinking of just forgetting about it! On Funkypower they range from £15-90 odd I just thought it would be a half decent upgrade.

Thanks for all the replies,

Josh..

i think my kit came with the gear knob as ive never heard of the make etc... I'll have a look at the name and post it up in a bit.

I cant compare a OEM EK9 one to mine as ive never tryed one as mine came with it when it was imported, and i was the first UK owner so information is a bit tight.

i use itr swifter and it has great feeling ! :)
short swifters from ebay usually breaks Vtis_lad83 you are lucky !!

Right just checked and its the make ZOOM ZEMCA(is im reading correctly) It has ZZ imprinted on it. Can any shed some light as google cant seem to find it either?

I like stock shifters coupled with hard bushings for more feel. You seem to lose more and more feedback from your shifting the shorter the shift lever is. Plus the stock shifter is closer to your hand which should be on the wheel.
That's why they sell shifter extenders that actually move the shifter up higher and even closer to your your hands for track users.

You don't really gain any shifting speed with a short shifter, you can shift just as quickly with the stock one.
The one benefit of short shifters is they feel pretty cool as long as the lever isn't too short, it's kind of like you're driving a newer car like the S2000.

i have a buddy club short shifter and to be honest i noticed very little difference. keep your £££ and stay oem

I had a skunk 2 one on my EK4 and it is lovely. However the EK9 is nice to and tempted not to bother swapping it over....

I had a buddy club in my ej9 which I liked, but as said when driving fast you want the gearstick close to the steering wheel for better control, so I fashioned an extention. It worked ok but messed up the ratio's so the throw was quite long.

I also have a buddy club one on my new car which is nice but I'm going to be changing it for this...

It's a fastline performance shifter. It's a fair weight and after reading thier website and theories I bought one! A bit on the extravagant side price wise... hopefully I'll get it fitted tommorow, let you know what I think:)

Oh that fastline thing is a piece of JUNK, it makes shifting feel VERY numb, and makes 2nd to 3rd even more difficult than usual.

every once in a while blinx and I can agree on something... :p

I feel the same way with regards to the fastline shifter. It's well positioned as it's nice and tall, but the vagueness it creates is like stirring a stick in a thick pile of dogsh1t....(I did some pretty stupid things as a kid)

And yet, some feel like it's the most brilliant creation ever. I think the C's position shifter is by far the best for B/D applications if one were to go for a tall setup.

Pity they were discontinued long ago and if you ever come across one for sale, chances are, the buyer would be looking for a rather extravagant price of well over US$400 - particularly if the unit comes with the beauty plate which replaces the shiftboot.
