Hello guys and girls

Just out of interest because i'm a bit :nerv: to :drive: it with the clearance i've got.

Test fitted my Spoon calipers with my 15" Rota slip streams and the Spoon writing on the calipers to back face of the rims is very very small its making me :nerv: I estimate that its only 1-2mm

Is this safe?

The caliper is not using any washers as that will push it closer to the rim so hopefully my pads are worn enough that the caliper will still fit over the disc if not slightly offset. As per this http://www.spoon.jp/dl/45020-EK9-G00_EG.pdf i just haven't put that washer in to allow more clearance.

Also why you can't use standard bolts i don't know the stock ones are fitting mine fine??? Any one else?

Perhaps the spoon bolts can handle more torque? Or perhaps they are a bit longer allowing them to thread properly, iirc you want at least 5 threads in to be safe, any less and the part may become loose after time...

Spoon caliper bolts are a bit longer iirc as you are supposed to run the shim spacers between caliper and knuckle, the extra length allots full engagement of threads since the threaded section on the caliper uses helicoils. Blinx, they are the same torque setting as OEM bolts, 110Nm as per the spoon instructions

you HAVE to run these spacers Ian, otherwise the caliper is not centered on the disc :((

I run 6mm wheel spacers with my spoon calipers on 15x6.5" et42 rega evos and this is the space I have

As you can see, very little, about 1-2mm, although the caliper is fixed of course so this sort of clearance is fine :)

Tip for you, before fitting the calipers, replace the pad retaining bolts (4mm allen key ones) with stainless ones, I did this when I got my calipers, the standard ones go rusty and can seize in the calipers, mine are still spot on ;)

te37 15x6.5 +7mm spacer used 1,5mm washers and have space 1-2mm like you.

All fitted. 1.6mm clearance with correct washers used so all good there.

However and excuse me one moment while i vent! F@#KING STUPID F@#KING PILE OF S@#T F@#KING W@#K SPOON CALIPERS AND CRAPPY EK9! I'm getting very fed up with this car nothing ever goes how it should!

Rant over.

What experience have people with bleeding these damn things. We done the manual pump way and pedal feels good nice and solid but when you turn the engine on the pedal dissapears to the floor with almost no brake power what so ever. Pump it up and all is good untill you release the pedal.... Scary drive home i tell you...

Also and i hope this isn't the or part of the problem one of the inner bleed nipples is sheared off and fully shut... Its one of the inners. We bled it anyway from the outside nipple. Like i said with it all pumped up feels lovely and solid turn the engine on the pedal vanishes.... Do you have to bleed both nipples? Would vacum bleeding remove this issue???

God i just hate my car right now its one thing after another its pushing me to break it and sell it all.

I found that when bleeding my brakes the front ones bled superbly since the spoon calipers have the bleed nipples at 12 o'clock and air bubbles can escape easy

I drove mine for a few miles with the foot going pretty much to the floor then bled the rear brakes again and got some more air out, all good

Total faff, I had to bleed my brakes maybe about 5 times. You get there in the end though

What pads you running in them out of interest?

:thanks:

So you don't think its the sheared inner nipple?

Might need some more fluid....

EBC yellows  which to be fair work pretty well. Except there in a right state after Germany chunks missing out of them... :nerv:

Fook! Yeah they are meant to be decent pads, interesting to see how dunsy gets on with his at knockers

Yeah can't say the bleed nipple will be a massive deal, although if you can then get it out with an easy out if you can source a replacement

Got some carbone lorainne RC6 pads en route to fit to the front when i build the car back up, will have to let you know how they perform, meant to be pretty mental pads, not hugely priced like endless etc though :blinx:

I find them alright. Would love to see how they feel on the spoons.

May be able to get a stud extractor in there. There thousands of different bleed nipples on ebay. I think car ones are m8 * 1.25 pitch might try nicking one off my stock calipers...

I don't know much about pads, gona have to do some home work i think.

So whats the plan of action? Re bleed the rears or sort this nipple out....

Rebleed the rears for now if theres no more bubbles coming out the front

Hang fire, i'll check the instructions that came with my calipers, theres torque settings for every little bolt, MAY be a pitch and thread size for the bleed nipple listed :blinx:

Thanks mate, can you tell if the rears are the problem by the handbrake? Mine is solid now :D just the brake pedal. Probably completely different system.

handbrake makes no difference, mind it's operated by the cable no the fluid

remember to bleed your brakes with the handbrake off

AH FCUK!!! Thats what it was then 99% sure my hand brake was on!

best way is to have the car up on 4 stands with the handbrake off

Means you can nip round the brakes one at a time easy with the wheels off, start the engine with the car on the stands to check the brakes, if they're still shan then bleed again

We did some of that  lol

Re try next weekend then. Bet it ends up raining!

Thanks mate very helpful as usual! your a legend! Tried leaving you some rep but it wouldn't let me cause i've left you rep before!

haha no worries, hope you get it all sorted

Still have the joys of bleeding my brakes next weekend once the cars together, should be a bit quicker with the ABS out

Woo hoo that sounds fun! :secret: You'll be locking up everywhere with no ABS my stocks calipers where locking the R888's up on track!

Nah you can modulate 4 pots better than oem slider assemblies

Even running carbotech XP8's on track the ABS never kicked in, those pads were savage, rated up too 800 deg C

Bloody hell! Damn i want my brakes right! :drive: Can't wait!

Whats your clearance like on your Spoon calipers?

About 2mm gap between my Spoon Caliper and 16s Regamaster +45 offset. Didnt install any spacers.
