Hi guys trying to get some advice from any track enthusiasts and to rry and gain a better knowledge of what suspension is best for track

I have been told that even the standard ek9 suspension is quite a good set up however its not my cup of tea and i find it quite rocky and springy

Any advice and info on this would be great as well as any recommendations for coilovers to buy

cheers

use the search function ya nugget :p

should of bought johns ohlins man they would of been delightful on track !

Speak to stevenek9 aka the track whore :D

If your on a budget you can't beat D2 or Ksport. I have D2's with harder Tein springs in the time attack car and it's unbelievable on corners. People will tell you they are soft and break easy but I've been using D2 since 2005/2006 on Irish roads, bouncing off kerbs in Mondello and on the nurbrgring and I've never had a problem.

yep d2's or bc's if budget and living in reality and uprated struts etc

My recommendation if on budget

BC Coilovers (Up the spring rates to atleast 10kg/mm all round)
Camber kit
Full allignment set up

Camber

Atleast -2.5 deg up front
Atleast -1 deg for rear

Toe

Try 0 deg all round

If you like the back to be quick and turn fast toe out if you want it to feel very stable toe in.

If your money is a little more free flowing

Time to get some excellent coilovers with spring rates touching the high teens 15 upwards.

Full bush set

Bigger ARB's

Full camber kit

Allignment

Front -3-4deg
Rear -2-3deg

Toe

OUT car will be like a forklift! Very unstable in a straight line but will turn SO fast!

Its all a comprimise and what you prefer. Everyones set up is different!

thanks a lot ian very helpful :)

i am new to the whole track thing i have always been jus a daily driver and car show modder so not use to suspension set up haha

i am on a budget but dont mind squezzing the bank to get an awesome set of coilovers that will do the job :)

corner taking is a must :)

im running buddyclub race spec coilovers 22kg per mm and 19kg per mm at the back. full race set up and corner weighted. full bush upgrade as well. also as matto has said, strut bars are good idea as well. try a 3point strut at the front, i was amazed the difference over a 'normal' strut, then rear strut braces. you can brace underneath the car but not got that far yet... also tyres make a lot of difference but thats a personal choice.

Start with the basics, make sure that all bushes and balljoints etc are in good order

OEM bushes are great, however Hardrace ones will make the car that bit tighter however to utilise the patent RTA design that Hondas have you want to keep the RTA bushes OEM

the anti roll bars as standard are more than capable, i'm not a fan of aftermarket drop links so i just rebushed my standard LCAs so i could keep using oem drop links. to add a bit more stiffness and get the most out the ARBs replace the mount bushes with poly items. energy suspension make front ones (us civic Si uses a 26mm ARB) and proflex make rear ones (ukdm DC2 uses a 22mm rear ARB)

Roll centre adjusters (extended lower balljoints) are worth the cash, they are also cheaper than oem replacements in most cases (60 each from honda, 100 for buddy club ones). deffinately noticed the front end corners flatter and less snagging through the wheel when bouncing kerbs on track

the all important one, coilovers.............. I've done almost 300 laps of knockhill and 26 laps of the ring on buddy club N+ spec dampers and found them to perform extremely well! Ian will vouch for how good they felt when he was out in my car, plenty stiff but the dampers are good enough that they give a compliant ride. at £850 ish new they're not too badly priced

I'm getting my Tein dampers back this week, bought a set of second hand N1 circuit masters. short stroke race items, adjustable compression and rebound damping, spherical top mounts, swift springs - 22k front and 20k rear. Not been fitted to my car yet as they've been off at Tein for a full overhaul with one of the piston rods replaced. Something like this isn't cheap though. the coilovers second hand were £850 and the bill from Tein is coming in about £750. At £3k new it's still not too bad

First trackday of the year for me will be the SIDC day from 9am-1pm at knockhill 19th March. Should come along for a watch! Could take you out for a few laps, give you an idea what you're in for :nerv:

i was hoping you might get invloved in this thread steven :) after speaking to laurence and a few of the other guys it seems ur the guy to get all the info from :D As i said the whole track game is new to myself and as the engine starts to get rebuilt hopefully next week i want to progress onto the supsension while the engine is away. As u say its worth paying more for better quality stuff my worry was i bought an awesome set of coilies but bushes etc would wear very quickly. I have pm'd you my number mate would be great to come down to knockhill and see ur car heard a lot of good things about it :) and would love to come for a spin round the track :) :) It would give me a feeling of the set up of the car and the way it performs as im sure it will be different to my evo and my past civics and teg that i have owned :)

cheers for the info mate much appreciated

No worries! Got your PM :)

As for alignment, it's one of those things that takes a bit of trial and error to get right

As a minimum get rear camber adjusters, noticed when i fitted my old coilovers to Laurences Jordan it's left him with a nice bit of negative camber on the front but of course the rear has excessive negative

I would reccomend Eibach SPC camber arms, bushes are great quality, mine are still looking good. A mate of mine his rear buddy club arms the bushes are looking pretty shot after not a huge amount of miles :((

Just to point.

You're talking about BuddyClub N1 coilovers, and i would like to ask... what about Cusco Zero 2?

Maybe they're a bit more expensive than BC's but, are they better?

Nah i was talking about buddy club N+

Buddy club do 2 coilovers, the N+ then the racing spec

Haitch runs cuscos and does alot of track days, hopefully he can add some input :)

i am running Cusco Zero 2 and they are ace, i have only done 2 track day and they preformed great for me :D

If you havnt been on track yet, dont buy anything. Get out there on oem suspension, do a couple of days and learn about the car.
Then when you reach the limits of it, buy something like Stevens setup, but leave the spring rates as they come, dont buy any camber gear yet. Go do a few more days, reach another limit, then buy some camber/toe gear, but just dial in a basic fast road setup, as you get quicker up the settings, lower a touch more.

This way you will learn more imo, the suspension will not hide your driving. You will reach a point where you will want harder springs, but theres no rush.

stevenek9-were those tein n1 circuit masters bought off r-motion by anychance mate?
