What is the best set up for track?

If you havnt been on track yet, dont buy anything. Get out there on oem suspension, do a couple of days and learn about the car.
Then when you reach the limits of it, buy something like Stevens setup, but leave the spring rates as they come, dont buy any camber gear yet. Go do a few more days, reach another limit, then buy some camber/toe gear, but just dial in a basic fast road setup, as you get quicker up the settings, lower a touch more.

This way you will learn more imo, the suspension will not hide your driving. You will reach a point where you will want harder springs, but theres no rush.

jordan101 aint got that kind of patience :p

Not really, just steady progression, its the way I did it.

Not everybody picks anything up at the same pace, but I still wouldnt buy coilovers with a harder spring rate, dial in -3 degrees of camber, toe setting etc to match and go for it if you have not even driven on a track. As somebody mentioned tyres also influence things, its the same process, I wouldnt do my first few outings on a top semi slick like the A048, I would start with a good fast road tyre otherwise you dont learn imo.

As for the Cusco Zero2, they are very good, you may struggle to get them for under 1k though, mine came with 9/5 rates, which I ran for a long time before I felt I was at their limits and needed to change, now I have 10/8 Eibach springs. They have only 5 clicks of adjustment, perfect if you are lazy like me.

I have been tracking the EK9 for about 3 years, other cars before that, but I have learned the most with this car by doing things in stages, mine is not that low 33cms and I only have -2 up front, I will be dialling in -2.5 shortly as I have reached the limits of -2. This is not for everybody though, I am not a racing driver, just do things at your own pace at the end of the day.

use the search function ya nugget :p

should of bought johns ohlins man they would of been delightful on track !

Speak to stevenek9 aka the track whore :D

yeah dont think you would have got any better tbh especially for the money lol

stevenek9-were those tein n1 circuit masters bought off r-motion by anychance mate?

They were indeed

One of the rears had a leak though so returned the dampers to Tein to have that damper checked out and all of them overhauled. Turned out to be a damaged piston rod

Ended up costing me a heap, but hey ho i will have the assurance they are spot on before fitting

As mentioned camber is a funny one too, depends on driving style and setup etc. You need to keep a close eye on tyre wear to make sure you are making full use of the tyre contact area

For instance i run about -4 deg camber on the front, yes it sounds like a lot, but with the stiffness of my car etc i was getting perfectly even wear on my last outing at knockhill.......

.

What tyre(s) would you recommend to a track day noob? im currently doing a suspension overhaul, and tyres will be coming soon, was thinking about jumping straight into the deep end with something like an R888 but ive read a few times people say dont use a tire like that for your first time.

Go for neutral suspension geometry and Hankook rs2's :nice:

You will learn how the car reacts better and build your skill quicker too

Any good fast road tyre for a first timer, RS2, AD08, RSR etc.

I have been told that even the standard ek9 suspension is quite a good set up however its not my cup of tea and i find it quite rocky and springy

Well you haven't been out on track with it then!

My brother's rally-car ran standard suspension for more than a year and it worked a treat in every condition it was given, he only changed it for a set-up which costs £3k+ called Proflex which really says something about the quality and performance of OEM suspension.

It sounds like you have money burning a hole in your pocket, but whether or not it needs to be spent on the suspension is another matter. If it was me, I'd follow Haitch's wisdom and only change things when its actually needed.

I have just done Brands Indy on AD08s and will recommend them as good dual purpose track and road tyre. Having previously been on T1Rs, GSD3s and R888s I can say that I had the most fun on the Yokos. Lap times are never going to be as quick as on R comps, but they last longer before going off and wear very well, plus grip and feedback levels are better than regular road tyres. The fact that they are superb road tyres is a big bonus too.

The RS2 is reported to be just as good. :nice:

Hi guys trying to get some advice from any track enthusiasts and to rry and gain a better knowledge of what suspension is best for track

I have been told that even the standard ek9 suspension is quite a good set up however its not my cup of tea and i find it quite rocky and springy
Any advice and info on this would be great as well as any recommendations for coilovers to buy

cheers

Your standard suspension must be shagged then. :p

thanks a lot ian very helpful :)

i am new to the whole track thing i have always been jus a daily driver and car show modder so not use to suspension set up haha

i am on a budget but dont mind squezzing the bank to get an awesome set of coilovers that will do the job :)

corner taking is a must :)

IMO standard suspension will be better than 9/10 budget coilover set ups. I would strongly recommend you do a trackday, stick some decent tyres on, ad08s/RS-2s or if you have the money r888s/a048s go with standard suspension to see if you actually enjoy it before going out and spending money on stuff you may never need.

Standard EK9 suspension on track is more than capable for the average trakcday driver. I push my car fairly hard on track days and after over 10+ trackdays since i got it last feb am i only starting to look at getting different suspension, though i probably never will.

Just my opinion anyway, not everyone will agree.

I have ran them a few times now, in cold to near freezing temperatures with a damp track, my road going UniRoyal Rainexperts were much better, but still ran the rs-2s on the rear and it was fairly over steery, but nothing to the extreme where you couldn't correct it.

In the dry though they are very good expesially for the the price, 4 x 195/50/15s at £214 delivered.
