what are the benefits of changing the final drive?

SpoonCTR - with the 4.9 what is your top speed? Those with the 4.78, what is your top speed also? (In MPH please). It seems a mod I will do but cant decide which one. I have read through old posts but more info would be good, anybody had both to compare? As you would replace the clutch, lightened flywheel etc, would you also replace the lsd? My EK9 is on 73k.

I have always wondered about this sublect aswell... Is it an easy job for good mechanic to change this ??? What would the top speed in 5th gear roughly be ??? Does it accelarate faster in every gear with this mod ?? Also where abouts would I be able to get this bought and delivered to the uk ??

Cheers - Andy :D

Final drive is available from Honda @ £200 ish I think, or the Spoon equivalent from Tokyo-Express etc. What clutch & flywheel have ppl used? As for fitting costs..

i have Excedy stage 2 clutch & Excedy flywheel 10lbs to be fitted... hve two friends with same setup on...:nice:

it would be a good idea if you get hold of a set of uprated engine mounts too... save cash on the fiting cost.

if you plan on racing your car, you might want to get a new clutch/flywheel in there while the trans is off, and replace the fluid with Pennzoil Synchromesh.

blinx, i could get hold of this tranny fluid locally so used [Honda MTF] which is extreamly recommended by Honda for Bseries tranny's.

Thanks, what engine mounts did you go for & how much? Will you be replacing the lsd also, or is it a case of seeing what condition its in when everything is in bits?

So far I'm guessing: Exedy clutch £250ish, Exedy flywheel £200ish, FD £200 ish, (lsd if needed?) Fuel regulator & dial kit £200ish + fitting? Sound close?

Thanks^. Any other input? Is the 4.9 drive not everyday friendly?

Is it difficult job to change the final drive ?? Would u notice big difference and what would the top speed be with the 4.8 ???

cheers - Andy :D

So far it seems 4.78 is most usable for the road & 4.9 for track. Having searched through old posts I cant find the exact weight of the oem flywheel, just estimations unless I have missed it? I think I would only want a slightly lighter flywheel maybe 12lb, my other question is the N1 crank pulley, worth doing at the same time? Is it road friendly or is it track orientated like a very light flywheel? This link seems to say it is not compatible with AC & power steering? http://jdmland.com/ Trying to get as much info as I will be doing the 4.78, thanks.

Appears my link isnt working, go to ek9 engine parts section.

N1 Crank Pulley is track oriented, I have one, and believe me driving my car on the street or daily drive is impossible, you need a/c and power steering on the street, I have a lighweight flywheel (TODA) 10 pounds, with a 4.9 final drive , my car revs very very fast, but its track only car :nice:

I recommend to you the TODA flywheel, since the stock flywheel weights 14 - 15 pounds if you get a 12 pound one (I don't know if they exist) you will not feel any difference at all :nice:
