what are the benefits of changing the final drive?

I know it comes with 4.40 and i've read that people change it to 4.78.
Does it make it faster and how easy is it done?

makes acceleration faster, easier to stay in vtec, but it lowers your top speed a little.

I have one, and my car definitely revs up faster, you loose a little top end (barely noticeable) but by far it was the best mod I've done to my gear box. :nice:

The benefits are, your car revs up faster and because of this it accelerates faster! :clap:

You should get one, Its a simple mod for a mechanic, he has to take down your gear box, I suggest you when you do this mod, you can buy some good oil because your gear box oil will need replacement :)

In the USA it goes around 425 $ + Shipping :nice: I think you can get it from Honda also! Since you're in Europe I think this is the best place you can get it :nice:
 
has the final drive changed the top speed of each gear, i say this because the top speed in your 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th are all different to mine. where to get the final drive from?
 
if you plan on racing your car, you might want to get a new clutch/flywheel in there while the trans is off, and replace the fluid with Pennzoil Synchromesh. also make sure you have at least 2.5" exhuast and good headers becuase as the engine revs up faster it creates exhuast faster and wants to get rid of that exhuast faster.
 
thanks for the advice, what exhaust is best and what about a toda flywheel?
 
there is no such thing as a "best" exhuast, all the japanese exhuasts use the same 60mm piping, you just choose the one that looks the best and you think sounds the best :nice: if you can find something bigger than 60mm like 65mm or 2.5" that would be great but 60mm should be fine :nice:
 
quick question is the final drive the same in all ek9's? pre facelift/ facelift and type rx?
 
That being 4.4 final drive.

If you like a nice quiet highway cruise, the stock ek9 transmission isnt for you, but this one is even shorter! (making it louder at cruising speeds because of the higher rpm's)
 
this is one of the best mods you can do on an ek9!!!! should have come like it from the factory.

RVM, How long were you going uphill for? Seems to be taking a while to get to 180kmph...
And you said earlier that it affects top end? Did you mean top speed?

I'm also thinking of getting one, so I'll be querying my supplier... hehe...

Would you mind telling me whats the rpm reading @ 100kmph in 5th gear with this 4.78 final drive?

4.9!! bet that shifts:D, was thinking of getting a 4.9 for my track ek9 im building. but them again in running a b18c6 motor and s80 box so shouldnt need one:clap:

It affects top speed but barely noticeable, :nice:

All the time I was going uphill :) the lack of torque of the b16b is seen on that video!

yeah that vid of you on a normal road does look alot quicker. I am def gonna get one :D
