...Thought you guys may be interested to know that me and 2 friends had our cars weighed last night. Dont know how accurate the machinery was but i would guess its at least closest to the nearest ten KG

My Mates EK4 Sir - rear Stripped out, bride Drivers Seat, Function 7's and Gab wheels - 1020kg

Another friends 96 Spec ITR - Fully stripped everywhere, Full 15point carbing Cage, Buddyclub driver seat, 16" Desmond regamasters, 300mm discs and Twin pot calipers, aircon removed - 1040kg

My EK9 - Fully stripped in the rear, Cusco safety 21 8 point cage, Buddyclub drivers seat, 16" Rota Fighters (HEAVY!!!) 300mm twin Pots aswell, aircon removed - 1080kg

:shocked: I Know my cage is a bit heavier than my friends on BUT where am i gaining 40kg over the ITR? When i fit my new wheels when they arrive it should reduce it by around 15kg but even then...im still 25kg heavier than an almost identically spec'd DC2.

Any ideas why?

Just to add, im not fussed for the 25kg difference as our cars are pretty much identically matched on the road but just curious :)

Petrol maybe? were they all tested with the same amount in each tank?

aye we all had around a uarter of a tank...not enough to make a significant difference

You said that your friends ITR is fully stripped everywhere and yours is fully stripped in the rear. Not sure if that would make that much of a difference, does your friends ITR have power steering, abs etc?

We both have a passenger recaro...The ITR and the EK4 dont have ABS actually! good point! How heavy is the ABS system? wouldnt bother removing it but just out of interest

I was gonna point out the ABS and Air Con, Im told its 20kg for ABS and 20kg for AC. If that is wrong please correct me

That's quite interesting Duns!!!

As mentioned, ABS is heavy, it's also VERY handy though, ha ha

My car was 1040kg with about half a tank of fuel, although since then......

-Recaro fixed seat
-Buddyclub coilovers in place of the teins
-Lower torque mounts and brackets are about to come out when new engine mounts come
-Lighter flywheel/clutch

All of that should aid shedding weight, i still have an interior too, will have to weigh it again soon and see :secret:

Interesting post. I would say the total difference appears to be the difference in cage weight, ABS, the fact that the Teg is 'fully stripped' - I take it you mean totally bare of carpet, sound deadening, door cards etc? A Rega weighs approx 4.5kg in 16"? The Fighter probably 6kg?
Is it also the same model of BC seat as some may be made of lighter material?

It's a 96 spec so one less wheel nut/stud per wheel also

that's actually more significant in the aspect that the 96spec/EK4 share the same brake rotor size.

the larger EK9 rotor/calipers front and rear attribute to some of the additional weight gain Dunsy is seeing ontop of the obvious bits such as the ABS system.

Don't forget that the larger tires necessary for the current 16s also weigh more than a 15in. sometimes by as much as 2kg each depending on make/model/size/construction.

Yeah i wouldnt be getting rid of that! Lol

Well he still has door cards and his Dash, passenger recaro and drivers buddyclub seat...Apart from that its all gone. My Buddyclub is the newer one but its seriously light, there would be nothing in it i dont think.

Both cars have 205/45/16 yokohama budget Tyres on but after swapping from the slips with my hankooks my car feels alot less agile if that makes sense? like you can feel the difference in weight of the wheels

.

The DC2 and my EK9 both have the same brake setup up front...300mm Twin pots from the ATR. My rears are OEM and the Tegs are 242 on the rear. however the EK4 has a 262/282 setup aswell :) haha

My CAGE weighs 32kg.

Yeah i thought the cage was around 30kg...Cheers for confirming

abs does weigh about 20kg as abs plus tcs on the egs adds 40kg to the weight of the car.

Whats TCS?

TCS is traction control system Dunsy i think

How heavy are your new wheels going to be and how heavy are your current wheels?

the Rota slips i had were 5.9kg...the New ones i am getting are 6kg and 15" so the tyres will weigh less

There is no way the Rota fighters are 6kg, id say with the tyres on they are 10kg per wheel :nono:

Bit of a pointless comment but my EK is 918kg with a full multipoint cage.........not a great drive if you want to go to Tesco's on a hot summers days though
