Throttle body coolant bypass

was wondering why there is coolant flowing there to start with cant be for cold starts cos coolant wouldnt be flowing til the engines warmed up any way so its got to be for cooling. maybe for when sitting in traffic jams?

Say what?
Coolant going to the TB is to keep it from freezing closed
while driving during cold weather,
has little to do with cold idle.

right that makes more sense, feel a bit silly now, i thought tho cant get that hot to need coolant to cool it. how likely is it to freeze closed, maybe bypass it in summer and reconect in winter.

How did yours go thru the winter steven? Are you still running yours this way?

Definately seems like a logical mod as long as it runs ok in winter without freezing !

Hey

Ran the car through winter, starting up the car with the oil gauge reading in negative numbers too, no problems whatsoever :nice:

Aberdeen is never that warm anyways

Definately a worth while mod.

easy to do. took more time getting the hose from the auto parts location. lol

i take it i cant do this mod to my d14a4 as it uses a rotary air control valve and i believe you need the coolant passing through it to make it work?

Ive completely bypassed the coolant from the IACV, as well as the TB. Only the electrical connector touches the IACV now. I wonder if it will last longer now that its not being heated and cooled all the time. This will also help keep the intake mani cooler.

It no longer hunts as much.

Should you drain the coolant before you bypass the TB or is there not much coolant loss when doing this?

bypassing iacv your idle runs ok ?
even on cold days ?
i need more info please :nice:

no the amount of coolant loss is very little use some cloth to catch it
BUT you need to remove the air that got inside your engine when removed the hoses air in coolant is a bad thing.

Would the best way to do this be letting the car idle with the rad cap off?
