Hi guys. I Put a post up about wanting to turbo my ek9,
On funky power there's spoon piston and conrods of the 1800cc stroker kit, can these handle boost?
Thanks

No and I don't think the kits is available anymore.

You want low compression pistons try weisco

good to see you are going for forged internals mate...

as Ian said Low compression is what you want for turbo build.. Good on ya doing it right first time :nice:

Thanks guys.
Yeah thought if I'm
Doing it atleast do it right, and only the once.
Any recommendations for piston and conrods? As said above, but any other makes worth looking at?

spoon pistons are just balanced OEM pistons, so they are cast

do a bit of searching about on the US forums, fair bit of choice when it comes to rods / pistons, pistons all depends on CR goals and what piston gap you are prepared to run, rods i think any good H-beam ones would suit a turbo built, depends on how much boost you are looking to run

also worth noting that the oem liners will only take a certain amount of boost then you will need to look into having sleeves fitted etc

spoon pistons are OEM but they are meassured by spoon so in each set all pistons weight is very close each other.they do it so the engine is more balanced.

oem pistons are not designed for boost applications of course.

Thanks guys.

ive be running manley rods
cp 9-1 pistons

what sort of power you looking for??? they will handle anything up to 500(depending)

When you look how much a local builder charges to balance STD pistons you see what a rip off (some) spoon stuff is.

Spoons stuff is a JOKE... I guess the fact that they've named there company about something you would use with soup, yogurt, ect is a hint (j/k)

I might start my own company up and call it "Fork"

The worst thing is the ECU! People paying £££ for an unmappable ECU ..

I'm not going for mega power. Maybe 300whp?
But I know I'll get to addicted and just keep going for power

I keep hearing alot of bad things about spoon. Do they make stuff actually worth the money?

well you need to build for that then.
im only running 330hp @flywheel. but i know my engine is over engineered to a degree. if i had the money i would of had the engine block sleeved. thats also something you will need to think about if you want to keep turning up the power. i cant really do that now, plus my turbo would run out of legs lol.
