spoon engine

:secret:anybody else heard any more stuff, rumors?

I DUNNO BUT I HEARD SOEM CRAZY AMERICAN RUNNING ROUND THE TRADING ESTATE SHOUTING "I NEED NOS TONIGHT"!!! BWHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA :nice::nice: :shocked::shocked::shocked:

uh...no.

If you took the time to compare their prices to OEM bits with respect to their piston sets/stroker kits you'll find they are similar to what they would cost you from Honda but have been selectively balanced by Spoon.

So unless you own a machine shop or have a friend who owns one, these prices are well within the "hype."

Other "original" bits such as the calipers and N1 dampers are well worth the money.

some parts are over priced though, like there:

-$630 throttle body
-$761 axle back exhaust
-$725 B pipe
-$1,009 4-2 2-1 header that is made of mild steel on the 2-1 portion
-$289 radiator hoses
-$1,312 radiator
-$472 SS brake lines

nobody can disagree these parts are significantly overpriced. The parts are excellent, thats for sure, but most of them are re-badged units from other companies, i believe ATS makes there LSD for one... I know the brakes are top notch and a lot of there parts are excellent for the price, but some are just outrageous!

In regards to there engine kit, isn't the current price a clearout, i thought the original price a few years back when b series was still in production was like $2800, but yeah the current price of the engine kit is hard if not impossible to beat in regards to value!!

-OEM is $610.00, to have maxbore.com take it out to Spoon specs is an extra $100.00

-$725 B pipe
-$1,009 4-2 2-1 header that is made of mild steel on the 2-1 portion

-The Sport version of the exhaust is $638.00. The N1 is $400.00
-The b-pipe is $605.00
*A quality brand name catback exhaust is $700-$1000.00 that utilizes thinwall stainless for weight reduction and corrosion resistance.

-Nobody in their right mind would buy the 2 piece header anymore. The ONE piece 4-2-1 which is superior in every aspect except ground clearance is $979.00 with performance and price right on par with Toda.

-you got me there, along with the brake lines. The are similar units from Samco for much much less:
eBay Motors: Samco Radiator Hose Kit Hoses 97-01 Integra Type R DC2 (item 270271797201 end time Sep-09-08 12:40:59 PDT)

or even the ones from OBX which have proven to be very affordable and trouble free on our cars:

-The radiator is $850.00 for the street version which admittedly is very costly when one can do just fine with a unit from Mishimoto, but the N1 version which is over $1k must been seen to be appreciated in how well designed it is with regards to its integrated cooling plates.

The price of some of the parts you listed are in fact overpriced, but some of them again, aren't as ridiculous as many believe them to be. Will a custom mandrel bent midpipe and muffler from your local exhaust shop for $250-$475 produce just as much power or MORE than the $1000.00 unit from Spoon? Sure will. But it is doubtful it will be as nice in terms of sound production, fit and finishing and weight wise.

We're all guilty of brand whoring to some extent... and that's what makes it costly :p

I'm gonna stop arguing with you for that one reason right there ;) You have peaked my interest on that radiator though, what do you mean by cooling plates?

just like the cooling plates you see available from ARC/GReddy/Beatrush that cover the holes on the surface of the radiator support, Spoon has these built-in on the top and both sides.

The core of the radiator if things haven't changed too much is supposed to be made by Tabata which can be purchased from them directly without incurring the ridiculous rebranding costs. However, I doubt Tabata has the "N1 fins" in their line-up.

From a cost standpoint, one could state that a mishimoto/koyo/C&R etc. plus a cooling plate and custom made fins/foaming can be just as effective without spending $1k plus.

I can't believe you put Mishimoto in the same catagory as Koyo or C&R, mishi cores have thinner metal all over, there fins are paper thin and bend VERY easily! I ordered one and sent it back right away! the damn neck for the cap was welded on at a 45 degree angle and the fins got damaged just by me removing the radiator from the box!

I didn't put mishi in the same category...I put them in relation to how their prices are ascending.

FWIW, the mishis we've ordered in the past didn't suffer from the unfortunate issues you have experienced. Well branded/expensive or not, I've had the necks off Koyos snap off before upon tightening the rad cap... sh1T happens I guess.

so what, we already answered the original question ;)

oh, sorry i misunderstood, i will forever hate mishimoto... and revhard for that matter, we might as well add drag to that list and Greddy just submit there application to that list recently and its pending approval...

i would say as above, spoon aint as expensive as their made out to be....ive just bought a brand new spoon n1, and spoon b pipe for £540 to my door, in dollars that would be around, 1150? and to be fair that is not expensive for a cat back exhaust of that quality, spoon parts are very well made, even if alot of it isnt made by themself's, there made to a high standard, but also as said above, spoon don't go out to make big hp engines, they are more than capable of doing so, but they must prefer to focus on drivability and handling more than anything else in my opinion

Spoon quality are of high standards, however, aside from the exhaust sytem, they are expensive. eg spoon cams o_O
