i can get a spoon ecu relatively cheap and was wondering if they are any good? i only have intake and exhaust mods but have been told that this ECU would even benefit a standard EK9:nice::D

go getting it when you still can get it cheap or go to Apexi PFC :nice:

I got mine over a month agon now, and the difference is is very noticable. The change in bottom end power is unreal. Go for it man!

Get Hondata, you will not regret that. Spoon and Mugen ECU's are standard programs that are not programmable to upgrades other than stock. If you upgrade a part on one of these ecu's, you will not get as much performance as if the ecu was tuned for it.

the only hondata i would consider is s300 and no matter what anybody says ITS NOT A STANDALONE!!

Anyone know what a standard spoon ecu is mapped to run? Cams etc?

this has already been done like a hundred times but here we go.
Spoon ecu learns it is like the oem honda but the final results are more aggressive than oem. they reccomend 98 + fuel but i have seen them run 95 all day long. the ecu leans the best map taking into account pre detination, air fuel ratio and temp etc. it starts with a basic map and keeps kinda testing the limits until it reaches limits that is to spoons spec so there more aggressive than standard. So weather or not u have oem cams or spoon etc it kinda uses what it has to get best results. if you get mod etc just reset it (turn it off!!) and it'l re learn the best maps and fuel mixs... its that good!!! so it takes into account temp etc alot more than reprogrammable ecus do as they are tuned on dyno for spec conditions... now spoon do have upper limits like if your building like a stage 3 cam type setup a remapable would be far superior but for most the spoon ecu is king...... id rather trust years of spoon engineering as apposed to most tuners..... again i speak for most people who only do basic enough mods....

my opinion....

OEM Cams, or not too agressive ones, for example, spoon camshafts, toda a camshafts.

What really bothers me is the rev limit, is set to 9200 RPM, thats too dangerous running a stock motor. :blinx:

its only 9100 and on everything else bar ek9 its 9000

I do believe its safe enough as long as ur not a limiter happy driver. I have seen
a few used with oem valve train inc cams and they never dropped a valve. it does recommend a upgrade but i think its safe enough....

Thanks for that man, So basicaly its learnin the whole time?! I seen your friend tommy's ek9 before racing an st focus. Had it the 1.6l spoon ecu in it or the 1.8 ecu in it? That stroker kit is some piece of kit!

Having read through old posts, maybe I missed it, does the Spoon ecu delimit the 112mph?

Spoon ECU's do not learn grass! It's just a PREset ECU just like Mugen and most Japanese ECU's. It has predetermined fuel and timming maps that have been tested to run on a STOCK Type R. If you do upgrades, it will NOT learn to remap around these upgrades. That is a load of BULL! GO HONDATA, the real ****.

yea i just sold my spoon ecu and bought a power fc because the spoon ecu has its limits...its a great upgrade for sure but you cant beat getting a remap for getting the most out of mods

the spoon ecu does have limits but as origion post says its for minor mods, these things work the best with small or stock mods.

the biggest question is who do you trust more for tunners

spoon or your local shop. the spoon ecu uses fuzzy logic which learns both fuel maps and ignition maps, it learns more aggressive than the standard honda unit.

you ever hear all the threads about resetting the oem unit?? its the same as spoon one. get a mod and reset the spoon one... honestly for minor mods like stage one cams and some breather mods its the best in my opinion. Def for bigs mods u need hondata of power fc. but as for origional post i think its the best....

spoon arnt the best for no reason... try prove me wrong!! ha ha:clap:

oh and it does dlimit the 112mph limiter to
