So I'm trying to decide if I should buy a spoon ECU (Used) for my SiR, it's specifically for the SiR.

+Better fueling
+Better torque feeling (apparently)
+Earlier VTEC

-9K Rev limit (Would have to stay away from this point on the stock valvetrain)
-Possible expensive in relation to gains

Basically, I keep contemplating weather to buy this or not, I track the car a bit, it has a spoon 4-1, spoon b pipe, spoon N1, Whales ***** with cold air feed.

So should I do it from anyone experiences?? Just don't know.

Cheers
Kris

It's a generic ecu, meaning it runs the same map no matter what car it's plugged into so it will never run your car optimum. A custom mapped ecu is the best and only route you should take IMO.

See, I am leaning towards leaving it, But it seems like a nice way to get the car going "better" with lower vtec fueling as well etc.. and for £250 and plug and play didn't seem THAT bad. I just couldn't justify getting the thing remapped and an ECU etc on a relatively stock engine, would save that if I wanted a cam'd B18 or something worthwhile, well in time. And over here in N.I there aren't many Honda tuners as far as I am aware.

i know 2 people who ran these on ek9's but just a few bolt ons n they loved em but i can see were you are coming from about a ecu you get better gains because every engine performs differant i have a hondata but not fitted it yet so i cant realy say yet

You might aswell just get a VAFC/Neo and have that mapped. For 250 pounds you'll probably pick up a second hand vafc and have enough money left over for mapping. I get guys down from the North quite regularly to have their car's mapped. It's not too bad of a spin if you wanted to make the trip down:nice:

I.didnt know that vtec6000 I thought you could only control the fuel mixer can you control the air mixture aswell on them ?

I had a neo fitted to my del sol years ago. you can adjust the air and fuel mixture and lower your vtec engagement point. You cant adjust your ignition, or rev limit iirc.
Theres one on pistonheads for £150 they are prety good value imo.

You can alter the fuel mixture which in turn results in a change of air/fuel mixture as obviously your reducing or increasing the fuel been injected. I'm not a huge fan of these piggyback ecu's but I think it would be better than Spoon ecu unless you want a rediculously high rev limit!

You had a spoon ecu whats your opinion pal

I think ther greatest value is the ease they can be used with. I used to just put my oem in for a journey to an event then swap to the spoon.

The lowered vtec point and raised limit were good in the way when you changed up you were closer to the power and it was easyer to stay in the power band when you changed down. However when i installed my wideband i realised the mixture was WAY to rich (on my car with my mods) like 12's at some points in WOT. My local tuner also belived it ran far too much ignition advance...

Im no tuner this is all just my opinion. the car did seem far more livley with it on however lol

Here is a comparison I done some time ago. Car was a EK4 with just aftermarket catback exhaust(2.25") and short ram induction kit, it had been running on Spoon ecu prior to coming up for mapping on a Hondata s300 so I decided to give it a few runs on Spoon ecu to see how it was running before beginning mapping of the s300. Given the car had very limited mods I was surprised to see a gain of 10bhp from a custom mapped s300 over the Spoon ecu.

vtec6000 mapped my dc2 for me it had few nice bits done to it,,his mapping is second to none and i think you should consider taking the trip down,, you wont be disapointed mate

How much would you charge to get a S300 setup and mapped? be a few months before i can get the car out but i'd like to get it mapped when i do.

Funny thing is I actually have an SAFC2 In my car which I wired in but I have just been using it as monitoring device, didn't want to mess with fueling myself, I'll keep your mapping in mind vtec6k, cheers. And il keep having a think and a search, if i get the spoon i could always sell it on if i don't like it on eBay or a local i reckon. And thanks for the input guys :nice:
