Hi i have an EK4 and am off to the ring in 2 weeks. It was serviced about 3500-4500 miles ago do you think i should bother changing the oil or not just to go to the ring.

I don't mean anything special i just mean putting fresh 10w 40 in. Or is a waste of money?

:nice:

If the last 3-4k miles were hard miles then maybe. If only occasional VTEC then it should be OK.
Dunx

is it a long trip to the 'ring' frm were you r..?

i would change the oil as soon you come back frm it, as its not many Miles/Km since ur last oil change... however if ur oil is dark u might want to change it b4 for peace of mind :)

when are you going to teh ring? we are tehre 23rd - 29th july, change that oil man i change it every 3500 miles anyway!!

as **** as it sounds i change my oil every 2k miles

i do alot of country road driving and like to give it a fair amount of abuse and since a 4L of Castrol GTX 10W40 and a Hamp filter only costs like £24 then it's pretty cheap!!!!

Obviously you want to change it before a big track day, especially with that many miles on it.

Changing it then!!! I've given it a fair ammount of abuse and i think its like another 500 miles to the ring from where i am.

I am off the 31st till the 4th. Every1 seems to be going around this time.

I can't wait gonna be good!!!:drive:

Amsoil EA filters for me.
I feel that regular filter changes are just as important as what filter, and just because honda offers their OEM filter doesn't mean it's best (same way with honda oil)

For me i think its Hamp or normal Honda. I read that the Hamp ones are much better than OE.

reckon Honda OEM must do the job, as long the oil is replaced frequently...

guess there will b no noticeable diff between both. :D

change the damn oil! thats way too much, you should always change your oil before a track day!!!! and after the track day

In all my hondas before i hav allways changed them before 3000 miles. First track day this is, so i am a virgin!! I have ordered all the stuff.

Honda told me that there hondas do not have to have the minor oil services bringing it to 12,000 odd miles!!!! :nono: The intermediate oil changes in the book are every 6k

you can go 6k without changing oil if you use good oil and you drive slowly like my mom, and you have a new car or a car thats always been taken care of its whole life. now in real life we know we all drive like ass's, god only knows how the jap on the other side of the world treated our motors and most of our cars have well over 50k miles on them. with all that said 3k miles an oil change it should be for most of us. if you drive agressively change it sooner!

i saw a write up were a guy sent his oil to a lab for testing, they said after 300 miles of roadracing his oil was similar to normal driving of 4600miles!!

Jesus :nono:

I think judging by the way i drive i will be changing a lot more regularly!!! :nice:

Cheers mate!

Don't neglect your transmission either. If you haven't changed it in a while. Do it as well.

It was recommended to me by Spoon president that if you drive your car on a daily basis and do occasional track days ... to change it every 2nd engine oil change.

If you track it often - change it at the same time as your engine oil. A transmission is subject to very high heat as well and doesn't have the ability to filter or cool the oil as it can be done in an engine.

If you don't have a baffled oil pan fitted, I would recommend overfilling the motor by at least 0.5L .... having it starve at the 'ring and blowing up would really turn a good time into a nightmare.

How's the condition of your clutch fluid? Is it dark? Is it low? Is it both? Running at any track day encourages constant shifting.... it is advised to bleed the clutch and run fresh fluid through it.

seen a couple people doing this,, is it a tried and tested thing?
just get worried about it sloshing about all over the place if overfilled

Was changed at the last service. And haven't done any tracks yet!! And as above has that technique actually been used??? I think i will just fill it up normal. Am not expecting to be driving all that quick on my first outing to the ring.
