Hey guys,

I just bought myself an EK9, but there is a clonking noise coming from the rear of the car, usually more noticeable going over ramps. I was told it needs some new bushes, can anyone point me in the right direction and which bushes to buy and where to buy them? Cheers!

Its probably ARB drop links that will be creating that noise, you can get them from Honda but they'll run you up about 40 notes each.

There are aftermarket and patent parts available also, I think BLOX make the aftermarket ones and there is a website that sells the patent ones cheap but I cant for the life of me remember what it is. They do a lot of service parts, one of the other guys here will know it.

Oh, and welcome to the forum mate!

it prob is bushes...is there an after market exhaust on it???it could be catchin the compensator arm if there is

Well i was told this bush needs replacing... What is it called? And is it easy enough to DIY or should i bring it to honda? thanks.

thats the Rear Trailing Arm (RTA) bush, there is one on each side

best replacing them with OEM honda items as they have some flex in the rubber which allows for minor toe changes in the RTA under braking to improve rear end stability

looking at about £90 labour to have them done and about £50 for the bushes

agree that the clunking will also probably be the ARB drop links, these cost about £59 each from Honda, although can get them from motor factors etc for about £20 each. my old ones were clunking and right enough when i removed them the spherical link had some play

Never mind, just ordered from honda to be safe, not too expensive. Just hope labour won't kill me!

Well why not get a local garage to fit them? if you have any mechanical noledge you could give it a bash yourself. weathers not to good just now though:((

they can be a bit tricky to fit yourself, there is a tool you can get to do the job but most garages will just hammer them out

MUCH easier to do on a lift etc as you have more room, i did all my other bushes myself and found it easy enough, had a garage do these though. any capable local garage should sort you out

Ok got the RTA bushes changed and knocking is still there! The mechanic said its most likely the inner ARB bushes... He said, its most likely that as it is more a thumping sound than a tapping sound as associated with the drop links... What you guys think?

possibly you broke a endlink on the sway bar? also check to see if your muffler or piping is hitting anything...

Ah changed the inner arb bushes and the old ones were in decent nick so not them :( So is it deffo the drop links? Could it be anything else? The cars starting to piss me off, nothing but trouble since i got it :(

damn this really sucks, maybe something from inside the car? upper shocks bushings? springs could just be squeaking etc... are you on oem suspension?

If your car was lowered it could be the shocks. Also check if your rear suspension was mounted correctly and your bolts torqued. I had the same problem and was the upper shock bushing.

yeh its oem shocks but apparently been lowered on some springs... i suppose i'll just lift the rear and check all nuts and bolts...

I also have suspension problems. For about 6 months, my suspension has knocked on all 4 corners when going over potholes, manhole covers etc usually below 30mph. Initially i thought it was my tanabe smr backbox but have checked this & is OK. In my last MOT they said my RTA bushes were worn so i replaced these using a tool to push them out. But still have the knocking sounds and have had it jacked up on several occasions but cant find any worn bushes. Have booked it into my local garage next week to see what they can find.

Bleh fixed the thumping sound, was indeed the inner arb bushes... Now there's a really loud clonking noise from the left rear. My mechanic spent ages looking at it and just couldn't find the problem. sounds exactly like when the boot is closed and tapping but it isn't that! Any ideas? Seems to be just problem after problem, making me regret getting one :(
