Rear clonking noise?

Ok I had my friend drive the car while i listened to the sound in the boot and i'm pretty sure its coming from the rear arb.
I checked the drop links and they seem ok, no play.
I recently changed the inner bushes on the arb, could i have messed up something? Can't really think of anything!
Sounds more like a tensioned creak and cracking sound. Please help me out guys, it's the last problem i have on this car after so many!
Cheers!

ok,one or two simple things ive come across, the clips underneath the back bumper can just break and sometimes the sound can be misleading, also on some rear seats you can collapse the back of them but when they go back up the reciever can wear out, just grab the back of the seat and give it a shake

Nah i don't think its either of them cause i had a good listen from the back when car is moving and its deffo coming from around the centre underneath where the spare wheel is(i've removed the spare wheel).

I'm gonna strip my arb tomorrow and reinstall it tomorrow, but anyone else got any suggestions on what to look out for?

I know this isn't what you want to here! but i have a similar noise! i've changed rear tailing arm bushes, anti roll bar bushes and still the nocking noise! im starting to think its the top of the bush of the suspension mount but haven't take apart the rear suspension to find out!

so if you find the cure on this would be interested to know! but other than that im of the opinion that i'll let it develop until i can actually pin point the noise down to one item! otherwise you just end up spending money for no reason.

this is weird im having same problem!i replaced all arb bushes and all drop links and there wasnt so much as a whisper from underneath the car now after a month the rear left i knocking and i dont know what it is!i suspect its top bush on the shock, under the 14mm nut on the top on the washer.it cant be that serious though as it only passed nct(national car test)yesterday.seriously irritating i HATE rattles!was thinking of replacing all top mounts as they start to squeak with age.anyone have idea of price for these?

Ok, finally fixed it today, it must have been when i fitted the inner arb bushes, i shifted to one side a bit more. Noticed that the groove caused by the old bushed was a bit off. So removed the bushes and shifted the arb so the bushes sat on the grooves and noise is gone! try it out guys :)

i have a clunking from the back of mine too buts not just when i hit bumps mainly when the axles turning :S

supernova,

Was it these 2 bushes that you're talking about?

yeh those were the ones making a real thumping noise over uneven roads.

I will look at changing these.... does anyone know if there is a benefit in uprating these??

ive no idea whats causing mine it does it randomly and its the same sound does get louder or quiter, doesnt make it if i turn a certain way, hit a bump, slow down just does it when it feels like it
