R888 Or A048?

A048 are TERRIBLE in the wet, feels like i'm driving on ice, no traction at all even with a torqueless B16

R888 are much much better in the wet

In the dry though A048 are better, they don't seem to go "off" as quickly as the R888 do and give immense levels of grip

A048 are also a lighter tyre ;)

For the price difference though, think R888 are the best to go for really, i only tried A048 as i wanted to see how they would perform!!!

I can echo Stevens comments here, AO48 is immense in the dry and will outlast the R888 on track, sucks in the wet though where the R888 is 'acceptable'.

In 195/50/15 they are around 1kg lighter than the R888, which is equivalent to around a 2kg saving on the wheel.

Yoko AD08s are a much better road tyre, still good levels of grip but the harder compound lasts longer on the road, better tread pattern for wet weather and they wear very well on track. Adding -2.5° camber felt like it gave these comparable levels of grip to R888s at stock camber around an autosolo course.

Not driven on R1Rs but have been out as a passenger in an MX5 equipped with them round Snetterton, they seemed to grip pretty well but went off quickly and wore at the same rate as R888s.

A few of the MU crew are using the new Federal RSR tyres for track.
They say its really good tyres, im considering getting a set of them too.

^^^^ haha.
my brother has AD08's and altho a good tyre he finds on hard road use the do understeer. what there like on track with a bit of heat in then i dont know. he runs R1R's on the back but i think he'll be swithing those around. i really want to get a set of the AO48's just to see what the fuss is but the price kinda puts me off.

From personal experience the a048 beats the R888 on dry grip. IDE say but quite alot too (mind this was in a boosted motor)

As for the wet I wouldn't know only run spec2's in the wet and their bad enough lol

I'll just add my 2 cents.

Don't bother with A048 and go for A050. These are king atm, they provide lots of grip but wear out quick and expensive. The A048 lasts longer.

A050 blows R888 out of the water. No comparison.

RE11(roadtyre) outperforms R888.

RE11S and A050 pretty much the best choices that you can't go wrong with on the track.

On the road, RE11, AD08, R1R, KU36 you can't go wrong with. Don't use semi slick on the road. Semi slick's full potential lies within 80%-50% of tyre tread left. Running them on the road will ruin the heat cycle too. By that time, those high performance road tyres will just outperform your retarded semi slicks.

Thats why you should only use semis on the track. This is why some of us here say 'its a waste of money to use semis on the road'.

As said my R888's were great in the wet but i was a bit let down with them in the dry, Still good but I rated the Federal FZ-201 very highly in the dry (better than R888) & when upto temp! (never tried them in the wet) and not as expensive as alot of the competition.

Still yet to try AO48 or AO50's

Surprised nobody has mentioned the 03G Direzzas. Great tire but expensive, a lot of people at the Ring swear by them, including the guys at Raeder Motorsport.

Only heard good things...

I run on these now, only done four laps of the ring on them but even from just that I was impressed.
New r888r coming out though so watch this space
