Paint dull?

One of my mates does valeting so went to his place on Sat to try some cutting compound polish stuff on my car.

It came up ok but still looks cream in colour rather than white! The paint came up really shiney though and he said that the paint still has its depth and still shines ok its just not white.

We only used this polish stuff with the hand method not using a buffer machine.

Would this come up white again if I used a machine or do I need to get used to the car being slightly cream??? :(

Any advice would be apreciated

championship white isn`t like an ice white colour its more of a creamy white when you see ek`s next to some other white paints (audi for example) it does look kind of creamy.

you can get CW to come up good, just takes a bit of time.....

i washed mine down, dried, clayed, washed down again, dried, polished whole car with Blackfire gloss enhancing polish done panel at a time taking a while to properly work the polish in, waxed with Raceglaze 42 wax (on about the 3rd layer of this now). wheels were polished with meguiars scratch-x and then sealed with poorboys wheel sealant, tyres done with blackfire tyre gel :win:

if you want more info then PM me, i spend ALOT of time cleaning my car, i love driving it but also like to keep it in best condition that i can :)

here's a couple of pics from this morning, just waxed it yesterday (no exhaust on car at the moment if you are wondering why there is nothing under the rear bumper  )

Now that looks stunning.. No substitute for hard work as shows on yours. I have had some good results with a polish that works with white cars I got a lot of good info on the Detailing forum A world for detailers...

think im gunna clean the car today...its gunna rain tomorrow tho :(

Great info guys :nice:

Just bought a load of Meguires stuff from ebay, Wash and Shampoo, then Clay kit detail, then paint cleaner, then polish then wax!

It's gonna take time by hand, but worth it...

Also bought a few professional towels, a lambs wool cleaning mitt and a few applicators pads...

Watch his space.

Thanks again for the good info :nice:

StevenEK9 , Why

washed,
dried,
clayed,
washed again,
dried,
polished whole car

Why wash after clay? nothin wrong with the quick detailer on there is it?

A world for detailers... and you will need an orbital or even rotary polisher to get it looking like how you want. I can recommend a paint gauge on an older car like an ek9 if you can get hold of one :) The basic principals are:

1. Wash - degrease, foam, rinse, shampoo, rinse, dry etc (foam * 2 if dirty)
2. Clay
3. Wash (optional)
4. Polish - start with low abrassive and finishing pad working your way up to higher abrassives and heavier cut pads depending on your finish. Then work back to a finishing polish. You want to remove the smallest amount of microns possible in almost all cases.
5. Cleaner - basically removes polish residues
6. Sealent
7. Wax
8. Spritz - if your fussy

As i say there are many steps to each part and that's a very rough outline

nice information mate, thanks for sharing

Been spending some money on some new car cleaning goodies :)

see: Clean Your Car - car care products UK

Good website & seems good prices.

I have got new wash mit, drying towel, meguiars quick clay kit, Clearkote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze, Collinite No. 845 - Insulator Wax & some polish & wax pads! :nice:

I think thats a good start from what I have read so far, it seems there is much more to car washing & polishing than I thought!!

Autoglym shampoo
Autoglym bodyshop cuting compound - fine abrasive
Autoglym super resin polish
Autoglym ultra deep
Autoglym extra gloss protection
Looks like these are whats needed - can this stuff be got from Halfrauds?
If you dont use a machine what sort of cloths/fabrics would you use for each? eg toweling old teeshirts or specific brands you can buy?
OR if you have an 'Autosmart twin head polisher' what different pads are there for this thing? Again which pad for which Autoglym product?
Apologies for the noob questions but as I said in my manifold changing thread, if you havnt attempted something before then really detailed info is critical!

Haitch,

My car paint was looking a bit tired and I was thinking of going down the autoglym paint restorer route but after having a good look at detailing forums I decided to get the following and give it a go!!

I have got a meguiars wash mit, sonus drying towel, meguiars quick clay kit, Clearkote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze, Collinite No. 845 - Insulator Wax & some polish & wax pads! :nice:

I did all this yesterday taking my time and the results are amazing although it did take me 9 & 1/2 hours lol! The paint is back to white rather than dull cream and in the sun it looks so clean!

I would seriously recommend giving it a go because with a bit of hard work you can get some really good results.

I will get some pics up so you can see for yourself mate.

Cheers

Just cleaned my car so wanted to show the difference between before & after.

I also notice that dull paint on my EK. My other problem is the paint on my front bumper is duller than the rest of the body. :((

Like Chriso has said that is a very rough guide on keep it looking good..It worry's me a little that poeple are going directly to using machine polishing before claying the car first...

My routine is

snowfoam the car 1st
before
IMG_0169.jpg

Allowing it time to dwell (about 5 mins)
IMG_0170.jpg

and rinse
IMG_0175.jpg

Then wash the car using the 2 bucket method (with grit guards) using a wash mitt and def not a sponge . I use Bilt Hamber Auto Wash

Then if required (paint feeling rough) clay the car,to make it feel glass like smooth.Again I use Bilt Hamber Auto Clay

Then its onto polish/wax..

I use Bilt Hamber Auto Balm, which is an All in one,so no need for the like of megs 3 stage. Working lightly in straight lines,do one panel at a time using a damp applicator pad,and the buff off using a clean Microfibre cloth.Work round the car and by the time you get round thw whole car you can if you want apply a 2nd coat but this time 90 degs out from the 1st layer.

Outside of the windows sealed using carlack window sealer and inside cleaned with Autoglym fast Glass.

There are a few steps but thats a rough guide on what i do...

All Finished
