gonna be shopping for an intake soon, lookin at a few differnt options and just wondering peoples experiences with them.....

1. mugen replica carbon intake

2. j's racing whales willy

3. resonator box removed from bumper and drop in filter (spoon, apexi etc)

thanks!!!!

I've heard the 3rd option can be the best overall... A lot of garages including the tuning factory say so anyway :D

I like the J's, like the sound and the look it gives the bay...

It'd be careful with a CAI over here as it rains most of the time as you know, and you don't want to be sucking up water...

Hope this helps :nice:

well if i run a CAI it wont be goin right to the filter would be more so directed at it bout an inch or so back from it....

CAI's are good, to suck up water you'd need to fully submerge the filter in water.. That would mean driving through a pretty deep puddle! It's not hard to avoid.

I've got a Fujita CAI, it's pretty good, sounds nice and my butt dyno noticed a slight improvement over stock, but the stock airbox with the resonator removed and a GOOD cold air feed would probably be just as good and cost alot less.

I'm a little bored of the CAI now though, I'm going to be getting a J's whale ***** and building an enclosure round it and I'll run a good air feed to it, should give me a little more throttle response over the CAI and hopefully a bit more power, probably a bit more noise too!

:)

From what I've seen on t3h internetz, the stock airbox, resonators gone, good drop in filter, 4" hard piping till the box, 3" hard piping from box till throttlebody gives a very good gain. Probably ain't that much in the Mugen I think as you've essentially got the same system if you make a DIY CAI with airbox. Only you don't pay for the Mugen logo :D

Power gains on a whale ***** is still a much discussed item. I haven't seen any definite dyno's anyway where only the intake is changed.

I run ITG filter and cant complain, very impressed with it over the standart oem plus its reusable, you can wash it and re-oil it and you ll be ready to go again.Excellent filter.

I have a mugen airbox, wth a custom stanless intake pipe.
Sounds lke a Mini compressor when on idle, and when shifting above 8k, sounds like a dump valve.

i have a top fuel whale willy for sale if you interested let me know

currently running an oem box with an hks drop in filter £30 from sumopower and a cold air feed, no resonators. cost £45 quid to do. also fitted alu piping from throttle body to the airbox and covered it in heat reflective tape because it was free.
with a whales c#ck you'll notice really good gains only if you close off the filter from the engine bay and give it a cold air feed. there's a really good step by step on this forum on how to do it.
i may be buying a tegiwa mugen rep airbox soon purely because i like the carbon effect

running j's intake on my b18c and i noticed real gains in midrange over gruppe m's intake
also faster reving !

mugen is the best for me over every other intake
1.has velocity stack that makes power actually 2
2.is a cai that means no heatsoak and ramair effect that adds a few ponies

water can't be sucked with mugen intake

The Mugen is pretty much proven to be the best IMO.... it's just down to whether you want to pay for the privilege as it's stupidly expensive. I 100% agree with abunai888 on why, except I'd add that the filter size is also massive. If you compare the surface area to standard it really is no comparison.

the cheap solution is 3'' pipe velocity stack like bpi/blox etc and big filter aem or kn
that will add power similar to mugen
also dont forget the cold air feed from bumper to the filter !

I have had a Simota CAI on my VTi Civic, which was quite good, but I bought an AEM V2 CAI, which is better...:)

I heard so, the normal AEM CAI is good too, and not so expensive like the V2.

Try to buy an AEM V2, maybe a use one, around 150 pounds.

A new AEM CAI is 190 pounds + ship. on ebay.
