Oil Rig Workers

Haribo that used to own that mega spec black ek9 works on the rigs. My wee bro and Cal on this forum wana do it too! sounds like a mega job! :)

yeah been thinking about trying it out. Want to find out some info on it from people who have done it. Does Haribo check in on the site anymore?

I had a look into this a while back. Was fed up with my mechanic job and was looking for a change plus the money on the rigs is meant to be pretty mega once you work your way up a bit. From what i read its a hard graft and working 2-3 weeks solid would be quite hard at times. I'd also like to know a bit more from someone on here who works on the rigs.

Yeah been hearing its pretty intensive work. 12 hour shifts 7 days a week

I work offshore doing corrosion monitoring in the pipelines

Its a real hard day , lol

Start at 7am
Have a few cups of tea
Think about doing some work at about half past, 8 o clock
Another tea break at 9 for half hour
Stop for lunch about 1130
Start again about 1 , half past
Another tea break at about 3
then finsh up at about 5 - 6
With plently of smoke breaks in between

Sound like a hard days graft ?

You can also sit about doing nothing for days waiting on a permit
Granted some jobs are more intense and harder than mine :)

The money isnt as good as it used to be though :(

The hardest part of it is leaving your family for weeks
6 - 8 week trips are the worst :(

What is it that you want to know about offshore ?

Ive considered going onto the Rigs but its VERY difficult to get your foot in the door and the money may seem good but working for 8-10 weeks 7 days a week 12 hours a day your effectively working half a years work(hours wise) in 2-3 months. It will take its toll on you.

Ive been told as an electrical engineer on the rigs i could walk away with about £250 per day...thats £1750 a week so for 10 weeks your getting £17500 each ime your out there...Its defo good money if you get a good position but you need to have **** hot qualifications and like i said, a way of getting your foot in the door.

Go for it though. there are alot of people make a good living out of it

Thats going by what i was told by a boy who used to work on Rigs...Dunno if he was talking bollocks or not

250quid a day is what you'd get as an electrical engineer (design) in building services sat on your ass in an office, so not that great considering you'd be doing silly hours on a rig etc. depends which you'd prefer though :p
btw, im an electrical engineer, so thats how i know.

£250 is stupid money!! I would love to be making any where near that a day but i'm miles away from that :( Shitty Arnold Clark wages

As as been said it is really ard to get your foot in the door

No one wants to thouch you if you dont have any experience

I took me a year after doing my survival/medical/greenand courses to get a start
And i really only got it because my mate ad just got back from a trip and got a call at 1630 saying they needed someone the next day, he didnt want to do it and put them on to me

And an electrical engineer wit a company getting a salary will make way more than that

Hey Guys..

Yeah I work offshore, been doing it since I was 18 years old.. Just coming up for 5 years now..
I am a Derrickman, assisting in the drilling and exploration of new oil wells in the north sea.. We work 2 on 2 off rotation, 12 hours a day - 7 days a week..
The money is really good considering the work we do, I make roughly £3300 a month.. Baring in mind I only work 2 weeks a month..

186 days payed holiday a year !!

Cheers, Andy
