New Toyota..... Hachiroku

Well just back from the local dealers..... Shame it rained just as we were about to leave. It felt very planted and feels light on it's feet, but it also soaks up the lumps and bumps very well.

The engine definitely needs to be pushed to get the most out of it but then again coming from a Type-R this is normal. It has a shift light as standard too. I like the fact it pipes the intake noise into the cabin after 5k rpm so long distances would not be a problem and conversations are actually possible. They've definitely gone the route of minimal sound-proofing to keep weight down but not to the extreme of the ITR/CTR. It's not as quiet as I'd imagine the TT/1 Coupe to be but I doubt either would be as involving to drive.

I guess my summary would be that it feels quite similar to an ITR/CTR except it's more refined in every way, with a dolop of RWD fun to boot. Less harsh ride, smoother power delivery and would be easier to live with day to day.

I'm seriously tempted now....

Deposit paid and order is in. Expecting delivery end of Sept.

So now got to do a few little bits to the EK9 and then she's up for sale..... will be sad to see her go after 6 years. If anyone is interested then let me know - it will be going for £3,200, I'll get a for sale ad up when I've cleaned her and fitted new brakes and radiator.

Wow, this sounds good. Really envious! haha. Been looking forward to the release since they first announced a new 86. Good praising review in this months Banzai too

Any particular reason?? After looking about Subaru will sell it for £24,995, the exact same price as Toyota and then add on the options etc. Maybe it's me and getting old but having slightly softer springs sound like the better of the two options, lol.

Also swayed by the fact I know a few people that work in the workshop Toyota.... so I know it will be looked after!

Plus the original 86 is obvs a Toyota so for me its only right that the new one should be a Toyota

it has the same engine that is found in the GDB impreza minus the turbo but with the addition of toyotas direct injection technology, forget about winding these engines anything beyond 7500rpm reliably and forget about them making any kind of power in NA trim. I have the turbocharged varient of this enigne in my WRX and it makes **** for power in turbo trim!! only about 280awhp is what i have my at now, i don't feel safe pushing anymore out of it and i already have a sport turbo upgrade and all supporting mods, ems, dyno tune, etc...

Are you sure Blinx??

I thought the FA20 boxer was new for this model?? I found this:

FR-S and BRZ FA20 engine specifications:

•Displacement: 1998 cc
•Bore and stroke: 86 mm by 86 mm
•Compression ratio: 12.5:1
•Standard EFI & direct injection
•DOHC and dual variable valve timing, 16 valves
•Maximum RPM: 7500

Subaru EJ20 2.0 liter turbocharged WRX engine specifications:

•Displacement: 1994 cc
•Bore and stroke: 92 mm by 75 mm
•Compression ratio: 8:1
•Standard EFI
•DOHC, 16 valves
•Maximum RPM: 7200

I wouldn't be too bothered about how much more power it can produce, the AE86 was never a particularly powerful car out of the factory either. HKS look like they've done a good job with very few mods as shown in the link below.

I believe the only power enhancing upgrade is a catback exhaust and it still manages a pretty impressive time bearing in mind that a standard R32 GTR has only achieved a 1:07.45 and an S2000 Type S 1:07.72. In fact heres a list of similar times around Tsukuba with the year and power/weight

Saw it at the local dealers and I have to say it looked decidedly un-special, could've been the new Toyota paseo for all the amount it stood out :)

Well, after the 1st post I thought I'd add that as of this Friday, this will be my new runabout:

GT86.jpg

Can't wait is an understatement!

Very nice - good colour choice too. Looks a good package, if only they came with some nicer wheels. Seeing as Honda dont have anything performance wise out at the moment - plus they have an LSD as standard as well.

Sold the EK a while back.... so this has been bought as the replacement. Only deal I could get was getting the Supaguard thrown in. Had this on order since early July.

The wheels aren't great but don't look too out of place on the grey or black car. Suit the dark colours better than the rest IMO. Might get them done in black or graphite, but I don't mind them too much.

Superguard will only cost them about £40. Make sure they do it though on every panel, our lot tend to do the bonnet and wings and thats it!

Congrats mate, i frikking love them

Defo a new car i would purchase

Looked at one of these last night, have to say i do like them a lot. But at £25k retail i aint buying a new one.

In a years time i'll see where they are but they have so much potential, modern day 200sx IMO. Not quite the same, but the guy at toyota last night told me they are bringing out a tubro version next year so watch this space!

I don't understand how anyone can say these look un-special, They look amazing! A bit like a baby LFA imo
