Before we took the head off we noticed that the cambelt was slack (yet another poor repair done)

then took then drained oil and found this on the sump bolt

It could either be bottom end of a bent valve. turnt the head upside down and filled the ports with oil and leaving over night to see if the oil seps through and doing same with bottom end pistons soking in oil to see if it dissapears.

Things to do rebild bottom end if its not a bent valve
New clutch as the old ones juddering and has the worst bitting point.
paint engine bottom end block red and the top aluminium
wire tuck

ooft sorry to hear that man !

glad your gettin beasted into it though :nice:

Thats quite alot of metal to be at the sump bolt! :nerv: doubt you'll need to check the bottom end as it might have spun a bearing! :((

Holy **** lol and thats from a pretty freshly built engine??? hope you get it sorted mate,if its loosing compression itll either be a bent valve or feeked piston

M8 when i picked up from scotland then drove the 460 miles home crusing at 65-70 got back and checked everythink vause it had no vtec the oil was bone dry. Who every rebuilt this engine id advise not to use

Problems ive found so far
One manifold bolt was missing but turns out to be the old bolts snapped inside the head

Another manifold bolt was rounded so i had to cut the head off the bolt then unscrewed it when the manifold was off.

Under the rocker cover

The Cambelt was so slack i could pull it off by hand. It was suppose to have had a new tensioner and belt. Belt was really worn ill get pics when i take the bottom end out.

And thats it so far.

But the good thing thats come out of this is im doing my first rebuild which im looking forward to. So not really annoyed about. At least by the end of it all i will have a freshly built weapon. Cant wait. In the mean time whilst the cars off the road for at least a month or two im gonna put doorcards in when my handbrake cover and gear gaiter finally arrive. Ill fit them. On the hunt for a grill, coilovers, rear arbs, and a steering wheel. If any one has the parts stated or advice let me know.

Sorry to hear about your engine, do you know who built it? Obv they wernt very good and should stay away from engines.

Cant remember apprantly the best engine builder in scotland. But it will be like a brand new engine when ive built it. Im going no expense spared. Parts im ordering.

Spoon headgasket
Oem timing belt and tensionor
Oem oil pump nothing wrong with old one but for the price its worth doing.
Oem bottom end bearings
Thermal inlet gasket
Oem clutch.

Im get my daily runner tommorow ill post pics up when i pick it up. Haha.

UPDATE... Cant investigate this weekend as i am still waiting on a engine crane. Does anyone has one forsale or to lend. Any ideas how to get the engine out without one. Now i got to wait even longer till i can get stuck in i was well looking forward to it.

Whats the best way of telling visually it was fine however i havent taken the springs and retainers apart to see if any of there is any bent valves. Belive i need to invest in a spring compressor.

Decided I'm not going to rebuild the engine as I don't want to do it wrong and be back to square one, so I've decided once I've taken the engine out of the car I'm gonna send it of to southern engines for a full rebuild block and head dipped into a hot tank to clean.

Things that are gonna be replace is everythink except valve springs and retainers. So it will be a brand new engine. I'm gonna run it in for atleast a 1000 miles before I even think of using vtec and changing the oil every 200-400 miles without fail

I'm also getting the block painted red and head and gearbox painted silver.
