My J's Racing Intake Installation...

Fitted mine in my non abs teg which also has a cusco master cylinder brace, right pain in the ass to fit!!!

The bolt which goes through the brace rubs right where the intake passes!! Took it for a test drive to see if it rubbed alot and indeed it does! Back to the drawing board and fitted a smaller bolt (just small enough so it still does the job but misses the intake). Now fits spot on, about 5mm gap. Ive got a Spoon engine brace so this should stop any movement.
Checked it again this morning and it hasnt rubbed so far so all good!! Waiting for Tegiwa imports to release there heat sheild kit now!!

err, all filters are oil sprayed. Even the sponge type is oil sprayed.

If J's filter needs to be oil sprayed, what kind of oil should be spray on the filter?

How often?

What exact amount of oil?

Where exactly on the filter? Inner side? outer site? both?

Some information about these type's of filter would be good for those having a filter type that need to be oil sprayed.

K&N do an air filter cleaning kit. My guess is that it would be fine to use with this and would do it with your regular engine oil & filter change.

K&N Air Filter Cleaning & Oiling Accessories

Follow these steps to clean your air filter and get back on the road in no time.

1. Safely remove the air filter.

2. After that, spray the filter cleaner on both sides of the air filter.

3. Allow the cleaning fluid to saturate into the air filter for 10 minutes.

4. Gently wash the air filter with cool water. If the filter is especially dirty, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the filter is clean.

5. Allow the filter to completely dry.

6. Once the filter is dry, spray the filter oil on the front side of the air filter and allow it to soak for 20 minutes. Be sure to completely cover the filter with the oil so that it forms a seal.

7. Once the oil has set into the filter, then replace the filter into your car’s air intake.

Do not use blow dryers or heaters to dry the air filter because it may cause damage. This cleaning procedure is only for reusable after-market performance filters. The stock air filter in your car is not meant to be cleaned and re-used

Hello guys - Jug! how are you?
I was missing for a long time due a serious health issue i had but now everything is fine.
I dig up this thread to inform you a road test that lasted 4 days and about 10-15 realtime runs (and a lot of gas...) just to compare the j's with the stock filterbox + cai mod.
I did this with a vbox and later on i run the totally awesome program named "racechrono" that works with gps.
I checked it many many times to see if its accurate and believe me it is..!
I will post some graphs really soon but as a hint i will tell you that the j's was better and faster than the stock airbox in time and in distance.
Imagine me running my car and a ghost car. The difference was about 3 cars behind the car with the stock airbox compared with the car with the j's.
Screens very very soon...

Reading that has just forced me to make my decision that I want one of the js racing intakes now :)

My question is where do I get one from? and will anywhere have them in stock or will they need to be ordered?

Tried funkypower.co.uk? There are quite a few sites that sell them. Just google it.

Ok, so i finally got those dimensions up!!!

They're drawn exactly to scale, & will have to be printed out on A3 for the scale to match. I've had a few issues getting these scanned in to the bloody scanner :)angry2:) at work, but I put a few control measurements on the diagrams so if you print them out & the control measurements are off, then the whole lot will be out so let me know & i'll start again.. :)

I've attached the files in .pdf format, so if this is no good please let me know & i'll email you the files in either .tif or jpg format as they are too large to add as attachments. See them below:

A good plan if you get them printed out would be to knock up some cardboard templates and then use the attached diagrams as a basic template, as im sure the design can be improved on :nice:

One specific area thats a tricky b*stard is where the engine mount sits in front of the suspension turret, see here:

it got me to wondering how I can go about making sure the airbox is properly sealed, as im sure it would perform better if it was a completely sealed box. If you guys have any ideas please let me know or watch this space for future updates, cause I really think completey sealing it will be well worth it, just to keep the volume of air within the box, without it being allowed to flow out of the gap where the engine mount sits.

Has anybody else used these demensions to make up their own sealed boxed? I'm trying to get something similar made up at the moment for my 9.
Thanks

maybe some group buy on this seal box - may somebody will be willing to make them :)

Looks nice! Was it a standard air filter before? Reason I ask is I have some kind of induction kit, unbranded by the looks of it but been told by the previous owner it was HKS. I was wondering would it be worth replacing with a J's Racing Intake or a replica J's racing perhaps?

Yeah, before i just had a standard filter and box, it sounded nice! but the password JDM filter is in another league!!! its pretty much the same as the j's filter, and uses the same principle, the j's filter has a filter bit at the top of the cone too not just on the side, but i recon your just paying for a name, i cant see how a j's one gives better gains than a password JDM one.

Im after reading through most of this thread, and would like opinions please. Ive an EG6 and at the moment it just has the standard airbox, no cold air feed or anything. I was thinking of getting a cold air feed pipe coming up and into the side of the standard air box and cut a hole in the air box for it.

Would this be good/bad? From what ive seen in this thread J's arent really suited to EG's.. The air con is removed from mine also.

I have just got myself one of these (well a tegiwa copy) and was wondering.

Have you completely removed the metal coolant pipe that goes to the head and just used existing rubber hose's ?

Defiantly gona be getting one of these after reading this. Most probably a tegiwa rep as they are a little cheaper and look as good. Great thread guys has made for some interesting reading!!

I'd definitely recommend doing this:

Cold Air Feed, improved my throttle response and the car revved about 75-100rpm higher on a regular basis on my apexi gauge, than before I installed the feed, presuming the car is running better. Get them on ebay for about £15 delivered.
