My E*9 build

Well fitted a new steering rack, and removed the power steering:) turned out to be a fair pain in the arse tbh and i also solved a foul screeching i had when turning which turned out to be a ball joint.

So ye got the car up on stands as high as i could, had to remove the following:

H brace
Gear linkages
lower subframe bracket:
track rod end inner on passenger side
And obv all the bolts to hold the steering rack in place and the steering column bolt

Was abit of a pain to get out but with a bit off a wiggle it was out:nice:

Removed all the power steering pipes and pump ect

Steering column asnt actually that bad to access after a plastic shroud thing was removed

Because i was removing the power steering i looped the to input and output fittings to keep the rack lubricated, But i didnt have spare fittings or pipe sooooo i pikeyed up one with some spare cutt off pipe that came with rack.

Has to help part of it up as it wasnt big enough, welding power steering pipes ahaha what wil be next!

only had to do a little bit:nice:

Well after everything was back to gether and fitted the car needed tracking, and as much as i couldnt be arsed to track it i really didnt wana pay some to do as i know they wont do it how i want it :/................................................. sooooo out came the tracking bar's

DSC_0086.jpg

Setting them up is such a faf but atleast this was i can track my wheels to the thrust line of my chassis rather than just a random datem point that could be out/not in line like garages do with them lazer kits.

Didnt bother even measuring the track on the rear as i canrt adjust them anyways, but the front was NICE hahaha

21mm out on LF
5mm out on RF

I did atually go for a little test before and i was wild :drive:

Tracked it up to 2mm toe out both sides soo im supposed to have nice positive turn in.

Took it out for a test drive and something was wrong i think, but id had enough of it by then sooo it sitting in my garden until sunday. Im pretty sure if ****ed up on tracking as i didnt use and grease plates soo i have the feeling the tyres may of take up some preload and then when id finished and move the car its adjusted its self again.

BLOODY CARS

Sorted the problem out :D my tracking was out, ridded up it all up again today and id messed up somewhere on saturday, but its all good now and feeling really planted!

Coming along nicely! Glad you got that sorted! Hate whens theres something small that needs attention! Blimp photo :D

Well got my bumpers booked into the body shop this week soo car should be looking all fresh soon :D and my mate too a random photo of my car :)

Fitted a rear disc conversion, refurbished the rear brakes and give them a lick of paint.

Fitted some big brembo's of a jag but decided to not use them now. So iv gone with a nissian caliper set up :)

Had to strip the brembos down and weld them up to allow a bracket to be made

Keep it up buddy! How are the new front brakes feeling?

Brakes feel mint! There pretty powerfull, i have to be abit more gentle on them though as its quite easy to lock them up. Im going to put my car on a flat patch at work as the front and back wheels lock up at different sides and front to back.

Small update**

Got a set or front and back SPC Eibach Camber arms, never used them before but iv hear good stuff about them as there supposedly the best.

I havnt forgot about it and it still going on just in small steps at the moe, im looking at getting it all on in the next month or soo.
Running a Garret T25 iv had to make a small conversion adaptor as the manifold and turbo flange are different.

**note** The flange adaptor is not finished, ITS JUST A MOCK UP VERSION it will look far superior than this when finished :D makes me feel abit sick looking at it at the moe haha

Also im currently bidding on a milling machine on ebay sooo hopefull i can machine lots of my own parts soo :D :D :D Im excited sad as it is haha

I have a similar brake setup and yes it was easy to lock up, especially with the brake booster in play. If I can recommend a simple fix for you, its the Kozy Adjuster...http://www.ek9.org/forum/members-rides/42012-tama666-2.html#post467388
What you may be feeling is the booster, over-boosting. That booster was made for OEM calipers, with the new brembos you have, bleeding off some of that boost is key to better brake feel/control. This Kozy Adjuster was thought up by our EK9.org member "Kozy".

brilliant idea! I use it, love it!

Am i right in thinking the kozy adjusters is simply a adjustable valve to give a change over the servo?

Its a vacuum relief valve; micro-adjuster. With it you can bleed off what you desire for pedal feel. Its unreall really. total control of my brakes now.

Im not trying to sell you a part, giving you the information is my intention. It may help with the front to rear lock up as well which you describe.

By lowering the vacuum in the booster you lower the assist that the booster provides to the system. At the same time maintain the front to rear balance.

Noooo, i relise you trying to help me :)

Doesnt just bleeding the air simply give you less assistant in braking therefore making it harder to push the pedal?

I think i will give that a go, But my suspension loading is allvover the show at the moments soo different brakes will lock up easyer, this is where using a flat patch will come in.
