Get a scooby. Have a sti type r myself and no I don't have any subaru merchandise haha. Seriously quick cars. Just make sure its been mapped for our fuel and serviced regularly.

Are they as soft as people say

The big problem with them is they come over from Japan set up for 100+octane fuel and run alot of advanced ignition and when run on our shitty fuel they suffer from detonation which is detrimental to any engine but more so a high powered turbo engine which is why mapping for our fuel is defiantly needed.

Another problem with the older versions was oil pumps packing in which happened to the previous owner of my car and ruined the bottom end. I put a brand new sti8 bottom end in mine which are much better then the older ej20 engines as there more of a closed deck design block and come with forged pistons as standard. I also went for a uprated high pressure oil pump to give extra safety. Ran it in for 1k miles and Andy Forrest from the UK came over for a mapping day to tune it, that was 8 months ago and hasnt put a foot wrong since bar a gearbox issue of the mainshaft nut coming loose which is also common, not a major job just needs the rear gearbox casing removed and nut tightened. symptoms of this would be a slight grind going into 5th gear.

Once there mapped, warmed up correctly and cooled down correctly along with regular servicing they can be just as trouble free as a honda.

Heard of these before. I think you can buy them for a range of different cars. AFAIK there basically a none immobilised ecu that has a eprom chip inside that you upload map to. Id be more concerned with who mapped it than the ecu itself. Another good thing to have with these is a knock monitor incase you get a bad batch of fuel. I have a apexi power fc ecu and with the hand commander you can monitor knock on that and also if detected it will flash the engine check light. There is a product called Knock link its a standalone electronic device that listens for knock and gives a visual warning if detected. That scooby your on about has it a 20g turbo? I think I remember seeing it for sale and if its the same one it was mapped by ECC

Its a 98type r one, I'd be on the look out for a fc if i did swap, ive one in the civic, do ya think i should go for it ye?

alot of people destroy the look of ek9 by painting them green orange whatever other colour putting on different wheels and bodykits they look best with exterior standard i think
