Just wondering for those who do allot of track days what do you reckon of making some custom lower arms for the front suspension on EK's....

somthing like these available for pug 205's

I'm thinking it mite add some adjustability options also could help get a wider front end without using spacers.

And i'm sure you could shed allot of weight off.

but is there somthing like that already available ?

I have wondered this in the past why no one does these. Camber adjustment would be alot easier.
Dunx

It would be very cool, but why re-invent the wheel?

There are tremendous forces acting upon these arms, are you up for the task or more importantly--"failure"?

If you can take that risk into account, go at it!

:nerv:

this is why I am NOT an engineer.

Camber adjustment would be a piece of piss, but as Tama says they are under huge stress so I would want to know that these had been designed by a bona-fide mechanical engineer and FEA tested with a significant safety factor.

I would not trust your average fab-monkey to make these up.

well i know somone who mite be able to test these.

But i was thinking about the practicality of them really. do they do under that much more than the upper arms ?

I mean if compbrake can make 205 lower arms i dont see why they couldnt mock up a set for a Civic ... or maybe another rally company for that matter.

But i was more thinking of making somthing that would look more like Dc2 lower arms. they seem some what lighter and slightly better designed over EK lower arms.

The EK is the newer design than the DC2, they must have gone that way for a reason?

the EK arms are light. for arms that is.

if you did this, it would be for the adjust-ability, not weight savings...in my mind.

hmm i see. and i can see what you're saying Kozy.

Anyone have any pictures of DC5 lower arms ? maybe we could compare.

For adjustability what would we gain easier to adjust camber ?

Wondered this also, why do they not make them of aluminium?

Can it not take the stresses?

They have not been made because of cost there is a big market for the 205 so costs can be kept down due to high turnover but the civic ek is a very small market so these would cost to much to produce in small numbers. I do know a firm who could do this quite easily but is it worth it?

I asked compbrake years ago if they would make a set for a renault 5 gt turbo with proper rose joints etc, ''no problem send us the lower arms and we will mock something up''

I would be up for a set of these and would gladly throw some money in to the pot if needed.

You could proabley do the same with the upper arms and make those adjustable with proper rose joints instead of a slider type of arrangement.

Haha, my mate made his own up for a 205, they worked well for a few day till he came round a bend and found a sheep in the road, he braked hard and it sheered the wheel off smashing the wheel arch and footwell/sill up. I laughed a fair bit but could of been more serious.

I highly recommend these! lol
Light, strong [oem honda] but with spherical!!!
Lead time, however long it takes the mail to get to you.
I have the whole damn spherical kit from wicked on my track car! insane control and feel.
I hammer my car out on track, no issues in over 10 events and over 6 months on public roads prior.

Larry, looking at those arms, would I be right in thinking that the two inboard pivots are on slightly different axes?

EK Front Lower Control Arms
Pillow Ball Bushings - Full Arm Assembly

Vehicle Applications 96-00 Honda Civic

...or are you thinking they altered them? ;) Not to my knowledge.

No not at all, they may be like that from the factory but I've never had them off to look, I had always assumed they both ran along the same axis.

If they are it's going to cause some interesting deflection in the compliance bush as it deflects, and god knows what sort of effects with the spherical joints...

I think I would have noticed something by now if there were issues. R-Crew have been on these longer than I on their EK HB too. No issues at all with them or the sphericals.
