Hi,

Im getting a very annoying knocking noise when i pull away and turning at the same time from a standstill. It was at random at first, now its almost everytime. Could this be the driveshafts or LSD?

Thanks

Mine makes A knock when taking off I think its the LSD making the knock in my car so possibly there could be a problem with your LSD also :nerv:

Mine is singing all the time LOL :nerv: from suspension to brakes, bumpers, windows.......and all of these because our roads are ****ED!!!

if it happens when your turning id have to say its the axle's look under the car and see if the boots are torn, though a axle may still be damaged without a torn boot, the LSD rarely fails unless your making A LOT more tourqe.

A lot means how much(approx)?? I want to know. Thanks

at least 220wtq+ ive heard of people braking there stock lsd with 2.0 vtec but they where launching hard on slicks and had around 180wtq, plus these are all on used transmissions so you never know how much your was abused before you got it cause in the US 95% of LSD transmissions are second hand imported. im sure driving style plays a major roll too.

They also told me that the loads on the gearbox and LSD are much much bigger after putting some 17" heavy wheels non-forged like I did. Is that correct? The truth is that when I had the 15" Volks Rays the car was going relaxed and I was feeling the gearbox's smooth operation.

i never thought about it, but it makes sense. also i did a quick search and found 2 guys who put over 500wtq through the stock type R trans/lsd with no problems, but they too agreed driving style was important like the way you launch. most people seem to agree though under 300wtq is the safe zone. i guess the type R lsd is stronger than the standard gsr lsd, the people i knew who broked them with 2.0's had non type-r lsd's.

When u say axle do u mean driveshafts? the gaitor looks ok but like u said it can still be worn. i just wanted to know if its more common for the driveshaft or LSD to have gone and making this noise?

wtq is the same as lb-ft of torque?? EK9 makes 118 lb-ft of torque. So its 118 wtq??

yes by axle i am referring to your drive shafts, and the axle will usually always break before the LSD.

no, the 118lb ft is rated at the flywheel, by wtq i meen wheel torque, like how its measured on a dynojet, stock ek9 wtq is like 101, so when i said 220wtq thats about equal to 265lb-ft at the flywheel.

Thanks a lot! :nice: So to reach such torque 220 wtq you definitely have to turbocharge your 1.6 or 1,8 L engine. Can a K20 make this torque as N/A? :nerv:

yes it can, my friend just build a 2.6 litre na k series its putting out about ~300whp and ~225wtq!!!!!!!! :wow::wow::wow: im sure they have stronger trans/lsd though since there 2.0 and naturally make more tq and hp.

I'm going to go with- replace axles with a quality axle. (OEM or better)

Everyone should keep in mind there are plenty of aftermarket LSD's that can handle the torque of a built motor.

Blinx I saw a time attack 2.6 liter K series integra in the July issue of honda tuning, is that the same person you're talking about?

ok, I'm getting the same probs with that knocking noise and yes it's becoming more frequent...

Someone actually told me that it might be the synchros in the gearbox. If it's the driveshafts, then my SPOON driveshafts should solve that problem when it arrives, but I have a feeling that it might not be the driveshafts :/

I agree with blinx with the LSD would likely be the last thing to go. Helical LSDs are pretty strong...

hasn't anyone else had this problem?

im havin the same problem cv joint all good when i do full lock or turning right making jerk noice and it humm when i go aroundabout i been told it the gearbox and driveshaft have any 1 fix this kinda problem yet ? helppppp

sorry for stealin the thread....jugbugz where did u order ur spoon cv joints from if u dont mind me askin???

I would reconsider about axles being the problem. I also get this noise now and then with stock axles and my new SPOON axles. So axles might not be the problem.

Some people told me this and that;

engine mounts loose
synchros worned
LSD

If you can feel the knock to your pedals as well, tranny is the most likely place.
