iv been considering changing my cams to aftermarket cams and looking at skunk2 stage 2, toda, and buddy cams. Has anyone used any aftermarket cams with a good mapper and what was there gains, did you prefer them to standard cams and how much did they cost for the full set-up. Also were these safe on your engine.
My current set up is
K20 ep3 engine
Dc5 type r cams
RRC intake
Skunk2 70mm throttle body
Skunk2 headers
Uprated performance clutch
Lsd in ep3 gearbox
I yet still need to get my exhaust, ecu and induction kit, exhaust will be custom 3 inch pipe, and ecu will be getting a k-pro

My car will be used as an every other day road car and for the 1/4 mile and may be even to take on the track

I know with my current set up I should be achieving near 250bhp but as I'm still in the process of building it I would like more power and figures

You will need uprated valvetrain with Skunk2 cams..

Drop in cams are available for use on stock valvetrain from kelford and Drag Cartel amongst others... TDI also have their own but sell them on a fitted and mapped basis @ £1500 ish

I'll be going with the Kelford DIC from what I've read you can see a gain off between 10-18 bhp and they make power to 9k.. altho I'd only rev to 8.8 myself.

I'm aiming for 270bhp.

So with the sk2 stage2 cams sk2 valvetrain and retainers what sort of price am I looking at, and is that a good and safe up grade, what sort of power and figures should I be getting

nearly all engines will benefit from cams being upgraded, k20's take very well to them, i have seen on average 15+whp at minimum.

SK2 Springs/Retainers £240 shipped + VAT etc
SK2 Stage 2 Cams £480 shipped + VAT etc

I would upgrade timing chain to cope with the stiffer springs etc

Toda Timing Chain £160 + Tensioner/Guard.

You have then got fitting which is much more expensive when fitting new valvetrain aswell.

Power gains vary as with anything... a quick search online shows results of around 10-15whp on avarage. The stage 2 Pros may yeild more as they are more aggressive but the normal stage2 are more suited to a daily with good idel etc.

IMO its not worth the extra cost... the drop in cams available give good gains for half the cost...

All this is just my own opinion of course. :nice:

Are the kelford dic stage 1 or stage2 cams and what bhp figures do u think I'd be getting with my set-up

The Kelford DIC's are the 179A's... dont think they do stage 1... 2 etc.

Its hard to be exact on power figure as every car is diffrent and most of the info on them is from the U.S... and they have the k20a3 not a2 in most of their Hondas...

If I had to guess I'd say 255 - 265 but at the end of the day dyno numbers dont mean much.. its a tuning tool is all. ;)

So how much would these be for supply and fitting and will you have to change anything else for these to run right

250whp is possible

Possible on what setup? If your going to say a stock k20a engine with just cams fitted there is no way in hell it's going to make 250whp. Dyno figures in the States(whp) are more like our bhp figures over here if you ask me....

blanket comment yes? some of us USA folks actually post up actual whp figures..."some" I guess being the key word here.

Currently I'm at 212whp/147ft.lbs with the grey dolphin.
Stock internals, ported intake manifold and big Sk2 TB
KPro, 2.5" exhaust de-cat

My goal is 225whp NA on a 2.5" exhaust via cams and springs only.
Thoughts on this please? Is it even possible? Would I really need to go with 3" exhaust?
