Alright people, got a problem with a mates EP3. 6months back he ran the engine dry of oil, so decided to get a new engine for it but the car sat for 6months before it was fitted. Now the new engine is fitted the car has an idle problem. At first start up from cold it idles at 2000rpm, once its warmed up it hunts up and down from 1000rpm to 1800rpm. Theres no fault codes being thrown up or any vacuum leaks that we cam see.

Anyone any idea's? :please:

Idle control valve, common issue,

If i remember correct its easier to take the throttle body off to get to it and clean it.

there is a cylinder with cut outs that spins inside a barrel this will most likely be corroded up, a bit of cleaning and some wd40 usually sorts it,

be sure to mark the position or the motor before undoing the two screws(funny headed securety ones),

my memory of doing it is a bit sketchy, but i hope it helps:nice:

just found a picture of one, they corrode up causing it to move slower, and the idle just cant sort itself out hence the hunting.

Nice one mate. Cheers for the rapidoo reply. So remove the throttle body completely and go from there ;)

Thanks again mate, a'l let you know how it goes.

Or take it for a good thrashing, worked on mine a while back.

Yes that mothod does sometimes work also if its not to bad, but the issue tends to come back if left for a while again,

worth a go though if it saves getting the tools out:)

Gave it a good thrashing, made it slightly worse if anything lol.

Stripped the throttle body off an took the IACV off, cleaned it then my mate broke it before me managed to put it back together lol. So we now need a new one and Honda want £270....Surely thats a piss take lol

A bit inconvenient then, mine was cured after a ten minute thrash, ugly price from Honda, try a breakers, RMotion etc?
